Default Beware "Momo" stuff on ebay

Just thought I'd warn people looking for Momo gear, to avoid items like the one in this link. It is NOT Momo (well, not Momo branded at any rate). It is the standard black perforated leather wheel and shifter that came in any XR6 or XR8, from EF through to AU. The same seller does actually list the real Momo stuff as well (and it's cheaper - go figure).

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI....id=p2761.l1259

As many people as can be bothered should send this guy a message through eBay pointing out that it's not Momo - you should end up with a response like the one below.

Here's the message I sent:
"Hi, just wondering if the item you are selling is the one pictured? If so, then it's not a momo but it is the standard XR6 or XR8 wheel and knob, and is worth around $150 the pair. If it is Momo, can you please show a picture of where the "Momo" symbol is stamped into each of the knob and the wheel? Thanks. And yes, if they are Momo, then I am interested, but they look like exactly what I already have in my car, which is NOT Momo."

And the reply:
"hi, if you read up on your specs you will find that XR6 & XR8 came with the MOMO steering wheel but not embedded with the MOMO brand but supplied by AUTOTECH which is the MOMO distributer.Any MOMO ford wheels ordered thru ford did not have the brand imbedded in them, the MOMO brand embedded was generaly confined to the sports version wheels. ray

List it and see. If you do, It'd be worth driving around for a week with no wheel (OK, so maybe not so much of the driving happening), and you could get the genuine Momo stuff for less - would be an upgrade that made you money.

Already done, though you can't include many details, so they'll have no idea.

Another of his "QUALITY" items. look like XD stock centres to me. Would love to have seen these on a GT as stated in the title.

Time to inundate him with messages telling him that he is wrong I think. Here's what I sent;

Hi, just to let you know what you have there is not a MOMO item. All Ford MOMO items were embedded with the MOMO name at the bottom right of the steering wheel and on the top of the shifter. What you have there is the generic leather shifter and steering wheel which was standard fare on upper models that did not option up to the MOMO items.

Russell.

He must have changed it because there's no mention of it being a Momo wheel.

Anyone forking out $600 for a Momo Wheel and Shifter is getting ripped regardless of what they get.

that's one perspective but it is a free market and if the goods are well described then it is up to the puyer what they are prepared to pay . so really if there is an accurate description the seller could list this stuff for say $2000 and is not ripping the buyer off as he knows what he is buying and what he is paying for. the vale of any item if what the market will bear ( what a buyer is prepared to pay) and not some pre conceived idea by an individual. if an item was listed as MOMO and later found to not be MOMO that then becomes a rip off even if the buyer only paid $100 for the set as the item was not as described

got my brand new perforated leather wheel off falcon spares in lonsdale for $145

really wanted one of those autotek special thick grippy ones but wasnt prepared to pay $350 for the privilege.

as such, anyone paying more than $350 for a momo wheel (which autotek still sell, and they are brand spanking) is getting ripped off, plain and simple.

It depended on which wheel. The woodgrain one was around $1200, while the black/red and blcak/blue ones were more like $800. Shifter was around $150. And they all came with "Momo" stamped in the bottom right section of the wheel.

The black perforated leather ones, while made in the same Mexican factory, are not called Momo.

Genebaby got that same wheel for well under half that price.

It has the same outer grips etc as the GTs (but then so does my $200 Autotek wheel for the AU). $895 is a bargain compared to what Ford were asking new, but only a fool would buy this stuff from this seller.
