you can and will be done for an offence if you have done it

i was out with a family member (detective) one night and the party we were at got gate crashed

all i can say is they chose the wrong party to crash (close to 30 police officers there)

all it took was for one of them to do the wrong thing and they were all charged the person that coused the trouble when they were asked to leave had the most probs the others were charged with accesories to the fact

saying that you will be very lucky to get away with anything in front of an of duty copper

a guy here recently overtook a car on the highway, reaching speeds of approx 130kmh.
what he didnt realise was the car he overtook was an off duty cop who took rego down and went and paid him a visit on his next shift.
the guy ended up going to court and lost his license for 12 months.

Almost no police powers have a limit of being on duty.
If you laid rubber in front of an off duty cop then I'd invest in some vaselene.

Police are bound by the oath they take when they graduate training to step in anytime they see illegal activity, regardless of being off duty.

All what has been said is very true. BUT there is an issue that the policeman must be able to prove the affence.
Overtaking an off duty cop is one thing. BUT he has to prove it. That all gets a bit messy when he's in his Corolla going home, how can he say you were speeding , when he has nothing to measure it by, but his word.

Yes your honour, this man passed me & I was doing 110kph. But how do you prove your speedo is correct mr Policeman? [see what I mean?]

Im sure a smart lawer could get thet thrown out of court.
Doing burnouts & he gets your rego, that may be another story, & if he is prepaired to go all the way with it, I'd say he'd win.
Joe Bloggs against a member of the Police force. The judge will go with the cop 99% of the time.

So to anwser your question YES there's no such thing as an off duty cop.
Thats why I love hanging out with my mate's that are coppers...

tell that to the guy that is walking for the next 12 months.
im not making this stuff up, that is what actually happened.
obviously, he had the ability to prove the guy overtook at 130kmh.
say what you want, it doesnt change the fact it happened.

They will tell you off but most when off duty cant be bothered with the paper work to go through with it, give you a scare.

And there is a huge amount of paperwork for anything to do with the "hoon law", also they would have to get in contact with the officer in charge at the time to have the conviction applied

PLUS is Christmas time and what off duty cop wants to work

DRHEMI you are dead right mate.

davway:::
Im not doubting what your saying. All Im saying is there has to be some sort of irifuitable[spelling] proof. Not just some cop, thats had a bad day & wants to get ya sort for something.

I have a fair bit of insight into the workings of the police, as I have 3 friends that are in the job. I can tell you as a fact, finger pointing wont get a conviction. There must be more to it.
I have seen the breifs these guys[cops] have to come up with to get a conviction. I have seen the technacalitys [spelling] that people get off on. Its not that simple.
They have multi million dollar speed camaras that get beaten in court on a weekly basis. So a officer just saying you did it, will not cut it. Saying that I would'nt want to go head to head with a officer in court. 99% of the time you will loose.
Again there has to be more to it.
