Default Lets get my car into the 13's

Ok guys heres the situation:

Best 1/4 mile time 14.54 @ 98.2 mph 60' 2.189

Ef falcon: 5-speed, 4.11 lsd, 2.5inch redback, race series extractors, full dev 5 kit based on a 91AA head (out of my old ed) race series intake, pod in box, dual entry air intake

time was run on 205/65r15 stockies @ 12psi that wouldnt grip along with a stock clutch and king spring superlows all round with standard shocks

Items that are still 10 year old stock:

Fuel pump
non-xr regulator
injectors
bottom end
clutch
non-xr manual ecu

I want to keep it n/a and please dont suggest forced induction or nos
also want to keep it as defect free as possible i.e no twin t/b's etc...

suggestions please:

How about a chip? Some slicks for traction, or do you mean strictly for the road?

I'd suggest some better tyres for starters.
if you can't get close with better tyres, perhaps some 3.9 diff gears.
it seems the 4.11's are just a tad too short for a 13 second pass, where as the 3.9's are better suited.
maybe a set of better injectors.
i'm sure it could benefit from some timing adjustment too, not sure how keen you are on a chip but i'd say it may benefit a tad.

What RPM are you crossing the line in?
It should be redline in 4th.

Try some tyres G60 (smaller, but taller than 205/65/15) or L60 (taller again)

Have you had it on dyno? Are fuel ratio's OK?
Whay fuel do you race on?

Have you got a short throw shifter? No matter how quick you are, that T5 is still a long throw...

Id definately go 3.9s and a chip like what John said. Advance does wonders... transformed my car

Your mile per hour seems good... I think you might be able to get a 13 just with good tyres and clutch? considering I ran a 14.8 with only 91mph

by Advance he means ignition advance.
EA->ED and EL can adjust the dizzy to adjust the base timing, which can do wonders on a lot of cars.
unfortunately we can't do that on the EF so we need a chip to make any adjustments.

I would get on a different dyno to see if power levels are correct. At 98 mph the 4.11 are not slowing you down. With a 98 mph figure it indicates 160 rwkws not 174 rwkws. You deserve to know. You need a chip to make your air fuel ratios spot on and traction. Once the tune is right you will have a fatter power curve to get you there.

Thanks Stevo, edited
i'm afraid rwkw is NOT directly related to terminal speed, yes it influences it but its not the only thing to consider.

if you want a cheap short throw shifter then go this, http://www.awcinfo.com/secureshop/ca...php?cat_id=383 but if you want a proper one like a b&m lighting shift or what ever its called its about $350 iirc!

a chip would mak a big improvement, especially with all the head work.

Your mods all sound like they should see you in the low 14's which is where you are.

A good set of tyres a good day and a good launch would no doubt see you into flat 14 territory.

The mph and the dyno tell a good story but you need to get it on a dyno and look at the Air fuel ratios. I would think a Unichip would be my next move if i was you as i reckon the mid range is probably not good thats why the 174kw is giving you 160kw times.

Any chance you can post up the timeslip for that 14.54@98.2 run? I'm with neb and John, power is not really your problem...your crossing the line at 98mph!!!!

Your 60' is good but not brilliant. With a 2.18 60' time and 98mph through the traps i would have expected to see a 14.2/14.3 second ET. With a 2.0x 60' time maybe a 14.0 or 13.9...

What rpm are you shifting at? How good are your gearchanges? What gear and rpm are you crossing the line in?

Dave

I have a similar problem as FPVWPN, 4.11's are really hard to launch... The best i have got with them is 2.18 60". My first every go with my car being a manual and 3.9's i did a 2.15 60", and i have never been able to repeat it.

I definitely think you should get a chip, and that will sort out fuel, (as you may not need bigger injectors or xr fuel pressure reg). Also wind up the timing as much as they can!!! and move the rev limiter... eg 6000rpm like me...

at 98mph with 4.11's you will be doing around 5200-5300rpm, what specs are the dev5 kits rated to... by that i mean power band? my cam is 2400rpm to 5800rpm, but fades after 5400rpm...

but as others have said, definitly short throw shifter and chip and some decent rubber under the bum...

Try a bit of weight reduction...high mph and low et would mean your cars weight may be slowing you down...

ok good suggestions guys just to answer some of your questions
1. an extreme clutch is definately on the cards im looking at the cusioned ceramic one
2. i shift at the gears right out till 5600-5700 and sometimes flat shift the 3-4 shift
3. im crossing the line in 4th above 5000rpm
4. 4.11's are bloddy hard to launch but i think itll be easier now with the 235's
5. car makes good power from 2800 upwards and screams in 3rd & 4th above 4500 althogh for some reason it dont feel the same in 2nd???above 4500rpm

question: will unichiping a standard futura manual computer and chipping a xr6 manual computer give the same result???? i.e are the differences between the two ecu's adjustable via the unichip or are these set and would be better for me??

There would be no point in a manual using the XR6 ecu if you are going for an interceptor unichip etc as all the different a/f ratio and ign curve differences can be tuned by the "chip"

I think the 4.11's are just too extreme for street tyres and with some drag slicks you will get a flat 14 13.99 as you are.

with street tyres 3.7 and LSD cars with much less power get big traction issues

Ye with 4.11s you will need to run slicks, my mate had same problem, he also changed his diff to 3.9s, put slicks on, changed gears on 5000rpm, droped the exhaust, was running, 14.5@98mph, he thenan a 13.96@101mph, 60ft 1.9,b4 it was 2.1.

Did you ever think that the cam is a tad too retarded? Maybe it can have a better power band from lower rpm if advanced a little and get you there quicker.??

As some of you know, I bought this car now and i'm taking it to calder this friday and since George made this post it's copped:

*Xtreme Clutch (cusioned ceramic button clutch or something I don't know!)
*Rip shifter
*3.9 LSD

I'll most likely be taking it to calder with 17's on it (235's)

Now I need some tips, i've never been to a race track before so I've never really launced the car or anything like that so yeah just tips on how to launch it, tyre pressures and all that sort of stuff would be good!

Cheers
