It's so dry that.......

We had to put a rock on each corner of our block of land to stop it curling up!

They've had to close two lanes of the local swimming pool!

And while walking the other day, I snapped this. Humourous side to a serious issue.

On a serious note i read somewhere that we have exactly the same amount of water in the world as we did 100 years ago.

Food for thought...

Water doesn't cease to exist, merely changes location. Could end up frozen on a mountain, sitting in a underground well, floating around as vapour, or in any life form on the planet. Point is, the glass of water you drink today, may well contain molecules of H2O that Napoleon drank, or even a dinosaur.

lol , some funny comments above , nice 'no swimming' picture too ! .. hehehe .

Seriously though, this is how dry it is - i got attacked by ants the other day...
I had just finished washing my car and had a bit of water on my legs, i sat down on my porch for a few minutes to cool down (there was no sign of ants anywhere at this stage). I must have only been sitting there for about a minute before i felt my legs been bitten to death, i look down and where my legs were wet was swarmed in ants !.
I had 2 huge thick black trails of ants coming from either side at my feet. They must of been starving for water to smell me out that quick and swarm me for it. lol

Oh i've also noticed latelly that my tap water runs brown for a few seconds now and then, and has had a poo'ey smell to it for the last few weeks too now and then. Makes me wonder if were drinking the dregs from the resevoirs or if they have already switched us over to recycled poo water without telling us ? ..

recycled poo water as you call it is cleaner than tap water

they use it to wash cpu chips etc in the silicon valley as its "cleaner" than normal water!

and how much filtration do you think tap water gets compared to "recycled" water.
i know what id rather have..

I'm with you Blackers. It irritates me that people are so ignorant, that they really beleive we are drinking sewage. (also, not having a go at you XR6-VCT, more so the intelectually chalenged of the country voting against the use of Recycled water) When infact, effluent is in most cases higher in quality than the 'treated' water from the tap, as you pointed out Blackers. It is then added to the 'Dam' or mud hole, in which fish just so happen to 'poo' and fornicate in as was also previously described, plus animals from farm land die in it. Dam water is just still water. Then, it is treated, just as we would normally do.

Also, for the earlier posts, yes we have the same amount of water as 100 years ago. It cannot be used up, merely moved around. The Law of Conservation of Matter states that nothing can be created or destroyed, it can however change forms, but thats going a little off topic.

Point is, Australia is dry. So much so that my nice lush grass, now hurts my feet to walk on it, and I tend to walk around bare foot alot.

Lol , i have no problem with recycled water ;). Lol i remember when i was living on a farm in Roakwood, the house water supply was all supplyed from the corrigated iron catchments located around the farmhouse. We noticed one week that the water was tasting funny, after examining the catchments we found a dead possum in one of them ! yuk - and we had been drinking and showering in it all week , and hey im still alive and disease free ..hahaha. cheers.

As someone else mentioned. there has allways been the same amount of water on this plannet, and it has been used (recycled) through millions of people/animals - dead and alive through the soil too etc , in one way or another we are allready probably drinking water that was once in a dead persons body / or from a toilet etc. - after the cycle of how rain works.

Also with our bodys being made up of about 80% water and heaps more people on the plannet these days , then obviously you'de have to expect that there would be less usable water ( as a good majority of it is in the worlds population ).

Remember that ALL water is recycled water. There is no mystery reservior of new clean water. All water you drink today has been peed by someone in the past. Nature then recycles it for us.

Recycled water? Youré already drinking it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On the ship in my avatar we had both reverse osmosis and an evaporator to make our own water, no problems for 5,000 people!!. As you say, why can't we have desalination plants around the country. We are an island for pete's sake!!!!

As for the joke,

an irishman, a jew and a horse walk into a desalination plant,
and the irishman says............ :

Do you ever think it could be possible to have mass reverse osmosis plants thru out the country? The ones on our frigates can produce 25,000 litres of fresh water a day IIRC, but thats only catering for 170 people.
Suppose it can work in theroy, can't see why it wouldn't be possible tho, even if it was initially for small scale projects.

Not to solve all the problems, but to help in the cause yes.

Compulsory rain tanks, compulsory government assisted in home grey water saving measures, better arrangents for street drainage which currenlty allows the rain that does fall to go straight into the ocean in coastal cities. All will help. Just making new empty holes in the ground called dams will not.

Where I live, 90% of water usage is by heavy industry. Fresh water for cooling etc. I live NEXT to the ocean. Why is heavy industry not forced to use salt water cooling?? :togo:

Unfortunatly the only joke is the water that is wasted in this country.....
