Just opened the mail. Found a lovely photo of the XR8. Along with a demand for a donation for $210.00 to help pay for Clares new highway patrol cars. I have already paid the $210.00 (BPAY) but the photo was taken about 50 metres before where the limit goes from 60K to 80K on the Stuart highway. I was probably just speeding up to 80K a little before the 80k zone. The revenue unit must have been well hidden in the bush's on the median strip, because I never saw the mongrel.
This is another case of blatant revenue raising...... The road is dual highway with a median strip of about 10 metres wide between the oposing directions. I dont think that there has ever been an accident there. Luckily we still dont have demerit in the Territory. The Territory is finally catching up to the rest of Australia.

If you don't want to get fined then don't speed. Everybody should know that you don't travel at the speed indicated on a particular sign until you have passed it, and if you don't know then you shouldn't be on the road. The simple truth is that if you don't speed then you won't be fined, yes it's that easy. I'm not having a go at you or anything, and it sounds like you were driving sensibly and I know they can be sneaky sometimes but it really is a just a matter of obeying the road rules.

Ford V8 it’s hard sometimes when the rules and some limits are total BS and it doesn’t help when they set these things up right near the speed change threshold, Like accelerating to 80 as you approach the limit change makes a bees dick of a difference anyway.
Outback Jack welcome too what the rest of us deal with every day, next thing you know you will have demit points, double demerit points, more speed cameras than you can poke a stick at. Get a radar detector and don’t let the mongrels get any more of ya money, I have been luckily enough not to get pinged yet as I only rely speed out in the country but I am still considering a bell AUS/NZ detector as they are getting more and more sneaky. Remember do 65 in a 60 zone and you are 2 times more likely to have a serous crash> One question I would like to ask the road safety experts. What is my chance of having a serous crash to start with??? Cheers. |

expensive photo mate, hope it was a nice angle !!!!
its funny how if you approach a 60kph sign, you must slow down to be at 60kph by the time you reach that sign. But if your doing 60kph, and approaching a 80kph, why doesnt that rule apply where as you approach it you speed up to 80kph, to be doing 80kph by the time you pass the sign ;)

Yes I can understand how it may be tempting sometimes, especially in rural towns. Not too long a mate and I went up along the hume and my god what a bore I'm surprised he didn't fall asleep, the signs warning us of the dangers of falling asleep at the wheel outnumbered the speed cameras 10 to 1. Really says something doesn't it?

Just curious OUTBACKJACK,
How long ago were you busted? Im asking just to compare against the time it takes to get a nasty surprise in NSW. Cheers.

Same thing happened to me in Victoria at a little town on the Princes Highway called CAMPERDOWN. I was actually IN the 80 zone when They stopped me and booked me for doing 75 in the 60 zone I was leaving. I had done 12 hours driving that day from Melbourne to Port Fairy and I was on my way back. I was really polite hoping they would give me a warning like they usually do in NSW. They were so poor they had a caged Commodore ute as their Highway Patrol car. This was before the money cameras came out.
In NSW thay make us pay $16 if we want the photo. |

Just under a month to get a fine isnt too bad. Better than NSW. It took them around 2 months to send me my fine. But there are more cars in NSW i suppose.
Cheers!

does everyone realise that the radar guys will "shoot " you about 3 times, as they check your speed, ??
and if they see a quick/big drop in speed between readings, they will take your car apart looking for the detector,!!! thats all the reason they need. and you will get to spend a half an hour putting it back together after , and if they didn't find it you are lucky, or didnt have one, I.E. one less ticket, ! |

If the powers that be are going to abuse their power to take $$ out of people pockets, and said people are not seeing any improvement in road safety, the people have the rite to civil dis-obediance (SP?). And do you really think that the revenue cops are going to search every car that slows down???? That would take them away from their primary duty of raising money for mis guided government programms, like giving our national parks to a minority and then paying them to least them back. Did you guys read the story about the Ausssie guy thathas developed a laser scramble that makes lasr speed detectors useless. What a guy!!! :sm_headba http://www.dontgetcaught.com.au/Text/1167219613500-8076/pC/1123371052484-4307/FAQ's---News

When you look at the new road safety laws you will see how the penalties for the most common "black Fella Trouble" are still pathetic. Where else can you drive at .08 and still get a $200 dollar fine and sent home. I got a bigger one for doing 78 in a 60 zone leading into a 80 zone. Oh well...... in time things will get better I believe.
