I have had warranty problems with a Topfield PVR. If I had known about this law, I would have demanded a refund.
www.accc.gov.au/content/index.phtml/itemid/8818 Basically, you can demand a refund or replacement for goods faulty out of a box within 30 days. ACCC says " Too many retailers are in the "sell and forget mode" and seem to get away with avoiding their part in the warranty process simply because they are ignorant of their obligations" Posted for general info.

in fact you can demand the 3 Rs at anytime during the warranty period ( repair refund or replace) the choice is yours under consumer law. don't let the tell you " the manufactuer won't allow that" your contract is with the retailer not the manufacturer . the retailer will try to bluff you but if you stand firm you will win
