Default Factory mudspats not avaliable to zetec body styling kit

Hello Everybody

I’m a newbie to the site and am going to collect my new zetec within a mth. I’m concerned about stones flying from the tyres chipping the lower passenger door panels & rear bumper spoiler painted area. I requested to have factory mudspats fitted to protect the area but Ford says that the factory mudspats cannot be fitted because their zetec body styling kit does not have the required fitment to accommodate it.

Does anyone with zetecs experience their painted areas at the lower passenger door panels & rear bumper spoiler area being chipped off from flying stones from your tyres? Would appreciate any suggestions to protect the area as no factory mudspats are available.

Another question…. How best to run-in your new engine? I have to do a long drive (abt 600kms) after collecting my new zetec and I don’t wanna ruin a brand new engine. I’ve ordered a manual. _2:

We have CL and no spats, they look UGLY with them, no chips on it as of yet...

I have an LX and I dont have any chips. I think the wheels are far enough in that it wont throw too much crap out.

I had to drive 900km from Melb to Syd a week after picking up my car. I fanged it round Melb for a week to try and get the Ks up. Didn't go over 4000rpm and varied the speed. Went up and down hills to work the engine. I'm at 2100kms on the clock now and I'm still trying to get more Ks on there but my work doesn't allow me the time to do a good long drive.

You wouldn't need any mudspats.
As for breaking in your engine: the first 1000km just drive it under 100km/h and don't rev the guts out of it and all should be sweet.

Biggest tip on the highway, don't use the cruise control until at least the 3,000 service, that helps you vary the speed and load, you shouldn't run at constant speed and revs while running in. Don't be afraid to go over 100km/h, that's not a problem, just vary the gear and revs every few kilometres.

Because the car is lower,and had the sideskirts, not too much will be thrown onto the paint.
