This topic may have been covered before, if so Mods delete. But this is a recreation of an e-mail I recieved.
AMAZING WHAT R&D CAN DO . NEW "SEE THRU" TIRES Radical new tire design by Michelin. The next generation of tires. They had a pair at the Philadelphia car show. These tires are airless and are scheduled to be out on the market very soon. The bad news for law enforcement is that spike strips will not work on these tires. This is what great R&D will do, and just think of the impact on existing technology: a. no more air valves b. no more air compressors at gas stations c. no more repair kits SCAN DOWN & SEE. These are actual pictures taken in the South Carolina plant of Michelin. It will be awhile before they are available to the automotive industry Weird stuff man, I won't be in a hurry for set. |

you couldnt pay me to put a set of those on my car, let alone driving down the road on a set, Not only do they look ridiculous, they look too fragil to handle both conering forces & a pothole in the one hit

I'd get a set if they had sidewalls.

I remember seeing these on ??beyond tomorrow (2000)?? whatever some show anyway, and from what I recall handling was exceptional plus improved safety. Basically they were given the thumbs up by the testers. |

These have been around for a while, if you buy them they're meant to come with a sidewall as they deemed it unsafe to have them uncovered like that.

different all i can say, might put them on the missus car one less thing for her to check on her car out of the list that she never does anyway, lol
if they had a side wall and looked like standard tyres i might look at them but would like a trial run first

The biggest problem I see with them is getting mud or other crap in them which would then throw them out of balance. Also, imagine cleaning the bloody things. I'm betting ArmourAll are praying for these things to take off, because you'd need a litre just to clean them.

If these were the norm, unlike air filled tyres they could be damaged and not necessarily show it whereas air filled tyres would go flat.
I can see Jeremy Clarkson now; "Here's a top gear top tip, someone you don't like very much, get a hacksaw".

You could always convert them to a set of "Spinners" to eleviate the lack of sidewall.
