Default Noisy gearbox

I have a 1981 TF GL Cortina 200 4 speed.

It only has about 80,000kms on it.

The gearbox whines in all gears except top gear (4th) which is quiet.

Do they all so this?

Or do you think I may have a bearing problem?

Yes it should run quiet so there is a problem. If it is quiet in top gear then my guess is the layshaft/bearings and or the bearing that goes between the input shaft and the mainshaft.

Overhauled is the correct way to go .... or .....

If you didn't have the time then you could buy a couple of years grace with flushing and applying the Mainlube Synthetic Solid Boundary E P Gear Oil

Just a thought

Cheers

Steve
