I'm not losing any water/inhibitor but the car gets real hot after a while using the aircon on hot days .
Is it time for a radiator flush or some other common cause ? thanks , Bazz. |

mine was doing that for a while then i decided to change themostat and fan clutch and it now never gets hots it just rises slightly when aircon is on

Hi mine has been doing the same thing and if you look around you will probably find the thread but I was given some great advice....undo the top two bolts holding your radiator on and tip it back towards the engine. Inbetween the engine and the condensor lost of leaf and grass and bug matter gets in and clogs it up. Clean it all out and bobs your uncle. If that doesn't work it might be time to get the radiator flushed or replaced.

I would say there is a bl;ockage somewhere, as stated above clean beytween the radiator an condensor, i know fo a fact, if you replace radiatr with a brand new unit, fit el thermos, and change thermostat, it will fix ur problem.

just check the fan first
should be stiff to rotate when the car is hot if its loose its stuffed clutch hubs only last about 10 years or so

using s cooler thermostat will open earlier, thus allowing the coolant to start flow through at a cooler temperature.
i noticed this problem when one of my thermofan motors stopped. If you have a clutch fan setup have a look at thermostat and clutch of the clutchfan setup. also while you have taken the coolant out, flush the radiator out too... also get some decent coolant!!!

Excellent , thanks all . I figured it's not the thermostat because without the aircon on the temp stays pretty low and stable .
I'll check for airflow obstuctions tomorrow and give the fan a feel for resistance in case it's the fan clutch too ! Much better if there's something I can at least check myself rather than going straight to the shop ! Bazz |

I had a head bolt snap, lost coolant, had to have the head shaved and a new headgasket. Not long after started to overheat again, 12 months. Head was corroded thru so new head. 12 months later overheating again, big bang, rocker cover exploded.
Had that fixed, overheating still. Then they decided to check the radiator, guess what it was stuffed and should have been replaced from the start. Lots of money and the overheading is fixed but then the ticking motor started. Then the auto died. Just trying to get a 2nd hand one now but will still have a ticking motor. Both brother in laws had head gaskets go on their EB's. Always been a Ford man but just bought my wife a VX Calais instead, but just had a $1820 service charge at 60,000. Went in with a knock in the front suspension and was told the castors were shot. Got the car back, same noise still. I'm beginning to dislike cars, going to get a bike.................... By the way, I'm not a POM just whinge like one. |

Well I took Vanessas advice , looked between the radiator and trans oil cooler or aircon thingy or whatever cooler is in front of it - and there was heaps of ИИИИ , couldn't see that much at first but once I shone a torch down the gap it was shocking . Cleaned it out obviously but haven't had much chance to test yet although seems fine .
About the fan clutch - I can still turn it when the cars hot but not as easy as when it's cool . It doesn't "freespin" if I try . How tight should it be ? Also noticed a small hose weaping a bit , comes from or to the water top up tank ! I'll get that seen to , seems to be a small plastic fitting that just slides in - I'm assuming it might be a broken fitting by the look of it , couldn't see it being made to just slide in to a pressurised system ! tanks , Bazz . |
