Hi all. As i'm the shy kind i don't really want to go to a ford dealer to measure up the stripes on an xr4... so i was wondering if any of you who have an xr4 or have put stripes on your fez, might be able to lend me a hand in getting the basic overall measurements. At the moment i'm just considering the side stripes for my (04 fez zetec). My uncle runs a large format printing place and has outdoor vinyl by the roll-full, and is keen for me to chuck em on (as it was his car in the first place).
any help would be awesome. cheers jim |

Howdy Jim,
I used to have overhead stripes on my WP fez, but I took 'em off recently and slapped on some ST side stripes instead. The stripes are about 42mm wide with a 12mm gap in between. The stripes I bought off eBay were reproductions (with the ST logo), not the genuine article, so they were a bit short, and it took some creative trimming to get them to look good. I'll post some new pics if you wanna see them.

The side stripes look like this.
The forward end of the stripes should reach the front edge of the door, but these stripes were too short, so I had to trim them at an angle, following the curvature of the front wheel arch flare. Check out my faux ST steering wheel (a bit of aluminium sheet and an ST sticker can work wonders). :P

I used a tinting spray (clear smoke), available at Autobarn or Supercheap. I took the taillights & side repeater lenses off the car and sprayed them with 2 coats (3 coats is the maximum before it gets too opaque).
Though they look really dark, the lights still shine brightly through them, even in bright sunlight. I've had cop cars behind me a few times and they paid me no attention, so I guess they're still road-legal.
