Since when have we allowed Facebook to control every living fibre in our world?

Gee, what a terrible predicament Ms Roberts has found herself in.
Unfriended on facebook and then she was not allowed to adjust the aircon!
Most of us would struggle in these conditions, how has she managed to this point.

This is why I deleted my facebook account last February. My friends wanted me to keep my account and some were actually annoyed that I deleted it permanently. I guess that goes to show how reliant some people become on it.

I have facebook but since i'm a quiet bloke i don't say much and people dont really type to me either. I just have it to see what people are catching at the jetty or if there are any motorbike runs happening.
There is a lot of negative things on facebook and i believe it is more evil than money.
My ex was always on it, every second of the day basically and got angry if i told her to get off the thing.

when i first saw fb i thought it would be ok to keep in touch with buddies , but after one use of it one time , i did not like the intrusiveness of it, i have never used it again despite my best mate calling me an anti social old ***** ..... probably true.
i still have it on my phone despite never using it, i thought one day i may need it, it seems to update 30 or 40 meg of data all the bloody time, it may be time for a FB exorcism .

I don't have a FB Account. Never have had.

I can see the appeal, but the 'upside' never outweighed the 'downside' for me.

Only time I 'missed' not having it was when one of my mates Mum passed, he used social media to communicate the info and was disappointed when I never attended the Funeral, not made any comment the next time we met.

Then his partner tweeked to the fact that I never use FB and all was understood.

Just saw the FB post of a friend. FB decided she may be using a fake last name so she had to send in proof or her account would be closed.

She has had the name for a few years after getting married but her hubby didn't need to prove anything.

Go figure....

I've been hearing of people being asked at job interviews to allow FB access to the prospective employer to check up on the history and character of the applicant.

Scary stuff this has all become.

I deleted my FB account 7yrs ago and at first I didnt know what I was going to do with out it. But looking back now its the best thing I have done. The tit-for-tat garbage and the cryptic crap that went on with the status update just annoyed me, not only that but the ex school mates whom you havent seen in decades wanting to join up with you to see where you are in life just got stupid. They never made any effort to stay in your life post high school, why now?

I have Instagram but only to showcase my photography work as a guide to whether or not I pursue it as another form of income. Everything else is only shared with real friends who are in my life, pick up the phone, text message me and making the effort to keep in touch.

I do not condone what the business owner did and it sounds like an unprofessional thing to do but it's a pretty soft offense and the person who got offended needs to grow up or find another job, but IMHO the article in the OP just takes the cake that the work place rules just panders to the minority.

I agree if used correctly, then it can be a useful tool. But many don't use it like that.

Sadly I have seen it being used as a vocal tool to bleat on about something to which you never say to someone's face. I feel it's created a lot of cowards who like to hide behind a keyboard.

I totally agree with this post. I found facebook as a great tool to communicate with friends, unfortunately as time went on it became a toxic environment. So many of my "friends" were trying to hurt each other with pathetic status updates that I simply turned away from facebook in an attempt to conserve some respect for the human race

That news.com article is misleading. Information has been selectively omitted especially in the beginning to shape the story into something which will predictably generate spluttering outrage and page clicks.

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2015-09-2...llying/6805484

Quote:
It is part of a wider bullying claim that also allegedly involved hostile behaviour and inappropriate comments.

[...]

Josh Bornstein, from Maurice Blackburn lawyers, argues the Facebook unfriending is bullying but only because it happened in the context of several other incidents.

"The Fair Work Commission didn't find that unfriending someone on Facebook constitutes workplace bullying," he said.

"What the Fair Work Commission did find is that a pattern of unreasonable behaviour, hostile behaviour, belittling behaviour over about a two-year period, which featured a range of different behaviours including berating, excluding and so on, constituted a workplace bullying.

"Workplace bullying involves repeated incidents of unreasonable behaviour and what the Fair Work Commission had to do in this case was to look at 18 allegations of bullying, of unreasonable behaviour and decide whether they had occurred over a period of time.

"Some were made out and some weren't, but what was clear from the decision was, there was a range of unreasonable treatment meted out to the employee over a long period of time which damaged her health."

I'm 19 and don't have Facebook Twitter or Instagram, when people I meet for the first time find out that I don't have Facebook they almost act like something must be wrong with me haha.
I feel sorry for them that they are in such mindset that they live on social media and can't enjoy life without it

It would seem to me that any other number of actions would have perhaps been considered bullying.

I get that the headline is misleading itself but how any sane person could reasonably include unfriending a person on Facebook as factoring into a bullying claim at all is just ridiculous.

Deleted my FB account about 5 years ago now for the first 6 months I missed it but now i'm glad it's gone. I focus my time worrying about my life not about what people are posting which maybe all lie for all I know. All and all it means you focus MORE on your true friends and have more time for family. If you want to keep in touch nothing wrong with a good old phone call.
Strange how you miss it so much when its not there almost like a drug.

The un-follow is the best feature on facebook. Get rid of people's crap. Actually see people you want to talk to.

Sad world we live in when social media actually means something. Seems like its for sad losers who people rubbish because people don't want to listen to them.
