I am surprised that they weren't a bit more creative. I know it's very subjective, but a 25yo car no is a 1996. That's an EL Falcon. I know for some its a significant car, but it isn't significantly different from a modern car really.

I did think they may have added in another band. We already have Veteran and Vintage. I thought maybe they'd add in a band for 50s-70s cars, and then 80s-90s or something.

they certainly overhauled the system when they thought people were abusing it for modifications. To me, this was just lazy.

Although - maybe the overhaul we really need is to go electronic so we don't have to have the sticker in the screen. And ideally so we can fit period plates instead of that horrible brown thing

The cheap rego is a fallacy, firstly it is not rego, you are purchasing a permit to drive your car

2ndly it works out at $1.69 per day, not much different to normal rego

To have your classic car on permit for a year is considerably lot cheaper than paying normal rego & TAC insurance for it, and yes I know you are restricted to so many days a year to drive it around.

Sarcasm noted, but my 1997 Ford Fairmont Ghia in Regency red and Cappuccino leather interior will be going on CPS in August next year

I agree with the stickers and period correct plates, I spent a fair bit of money to find out the original rego number of the XP.

The CPS stickers is contentious, my good mate and next door neighbour is a Highway Policeman, he was telling me that the number plate recognition camera's they use doesn't pick up on the plates so they don't know if the car is paid up or not until the pull the car up. It was only recently that they could check to see electronically if the car was paid up on the CPS on the side of the road. Vicroads linked the systems so that the Police could check.

Good. My NL will be going onto the permit system in January when it turns 25. No more having to pay $800+ a year to register a car I hardly drive.

Could probably chuck my Caprice on the club permit scheme but I'm suspect that it would attract even more negative attention than it does now, it's asking to be pulled over for the logbook check oh and while we're here that tint looks a bit dark, that diff is a bit low and hey she's a bit loud, Ive got this nice yellow sticker for your windscreen

I'm the same. But you hardly ever see cops down this way, and they see gramp's car anyway and probably just ignore it.
