Exclamation Ford Territory nameplate revived for new SUV

https://www.top10cars.com.au/2019-fo...e-for-new-suv/

China-only but looking at it, local engineers and designers would've had a hand in it, like Taurus and Escort.

Is it just me or does that vehicle look very much like the silhouette of the “baby Bronco” that has been previously teased.

Nope that's a global product this is CDM only. Also the silhouette of baby Bronco aka Maverick is far more squared off and bluff.

Another caveat is that the zombie Territory appears to be a small SUV based on the Yusheng S330, rather than a large SUV like its homegrown predecessor.

Seriously though wtf is your problem? I would've thought Ford dusting off the Territory name was newsworthy enough to warrant a thread, sold here or not. Ford Australia has developed every recent product for Ford China, so doubly relevant.

If you think I get paid for clicks then you're not very cluey about how it works. Just tried to share something relevant and i cop this bs. Grow up .

So here’s a silly question, why didn’t Ford give the crap Endura name to that Chinese thing and just call the new Edge a Territory?

Geez, brains mustn’t be a prerequisite when you have a marketing degree
This is the Kuga-Escape thing all over again....very slow learners at Ford.

The exact same thought crossed my mind.

Every single time, Ford finds a way to shoot itself in the foot,
perfect opportunity to relaunch Territory name with Edge name
blocked by Toyota but does Ford do the logical thing?

Let’s throw away a decade of nameplate identity and call the
new SUV a friggin tyre. The person that approved that name
probably got a big bonus.....

I can understand that they wanted the "Edge" name to keep it consistent worldwide. (Although they already have Fusion/Mondeo) But once they realised they couldn't get the Edge name they should have gone straight back to Territory....not this Endura rubbish.

The Edge is already there and selling well enough to see them on a daily basis (well when I lived there anyway). Changing the name of an existing product makes no sense. Secondly, Endura won't have a translatable name, even though the badges will most likely be in English, Chinese don't simply use the English name, they translate it into the equivalent name in Chinese. Eg, Ford is not a F O R D, it's said like this Fú tè 福特.

Also have to be careful with these phonetic translations that you don't end up with "Dead mother's armpit" or worse!!

Heard a rumour that Ford India are going to rename the Figo 1.2P Sport as a Falcon GT-HO Phase 1.2 .
Just saying.

The Endura name certainly isn't ideal and the Territory name certainly had traction in the Australian market.

I however don't think Ford could win in this situation. Like the ZB Commodore. Use a name that has history and **** off the faithful or use a name that doesn't resonate?

I wouldve thought it smarter not to use the Territory name at all. So much for that global naming strategy

For a business to advertise on aff they have to be a forum sponsor.
Why is this dude any different? He's using forums to get people to click through to his website.
Also fails to mention that it's his own site he's directing people to.

Csv8 shares links from multiple sources with (as far as I can tell) no affiliation between himself and the source. That's a significant difference.

Personally, I wouldn't be speaking like this if I was representing my own website. Whether you like it or not, people know who you are and therefore your behaviour is being judged which reflects onto your website.

Yes, I've noticed that too. I will make further enquiries with admin but at the moment, he can link to his heart is content. No one has complained up until now.

Yes we do need this sort of character here - he brings some sort of discussion to the table. This is the first time I have seen this sort of behaviour from him. It will be addressed via PM.

From now on, and if he is allowed to (or wants to for that matter), when he creates a link I think he should be disclosing it his own website. IIRC he did so for the first few links he posted.

provided the website gives good info and is not trying to force an agenda on anyone.

Just thinking out aloud:
Ford builds the Edge in China with a 5 and 7 seat option and import the Explorer which is also a 7 seater. Obviously with China being a LHD market makes it easy to import the US built Explorer.

The Edge in RHD form must have enough volume to justify the R&D/manufacturing expense however where else in the world would a market exist for a RHD Explorer to justify the cost of building one in the future. If this volume is too small to build a RHD Explorer would Ford entertain the idea of building a RHD 7-seater Edge. And it’s not because everyone necessarily needs 7 seats it's more that a 7-seater offers greater load capacity.

The Everest doesn’t provide the driving dynamics or probable refinement that a real Territory replacement would need to offer to be called one. And personally, I don’t think the Everest interior is of a suitably high standard or priced in the right $ range needed to fill the missing products for Ford.

I don’t know if Ford would build a RHD Edge in China for export. I’ve been told China-built Fords have a higher quality than US-built Fords so that isn’t an issue however would us potential buyers have an issue buying a “made-in-China” Edge if it was offered?
Would a 7-seater Edge (NA-built) impact on Explorer sales in the USA?

It’s no secret the next all new Explorer is twinned with the Lincoln Aviator but won’t be as good looking imho.

Thanks Bevsta, that's all I was trying to do and it's nice to have someone in your corner. My site is just an outlet to express my hobby, and any time I've shared a link here is solely in the spirit of that.

Just out of curiosity, is your website genuinely a ‘hobby’ site, or do you generate an income from it?
