Default Dash cluster

I know there has been lots of threads about dash clusters but there is one thing I still don't know.
If I was to change my cluster in my forte(say, to an xr one) what happens to my km's. My car has quite low km's and I don't really want to loose them.
And will an xr cluster fit straight in?
