Angry need help with engine problem, car running very badly?

currently i have a small problem with my Au1 thats starting to get on my bad side, when cruising or taking off from a stop very slowly my car is fine, however once the motor is put under pressure and i want to overtake, take off from a stop or just speed up the car just sort of chugs and cant really keep up? has anyone had this problem, i have been told by a few different people that it will probably be the spark plug leads. Would this be right or is there something else that i should be looking at?
thanks chris

Service History is important. Start with Plugs, Leads and Fuel Filter/ Air Filter. If that doesn't help, Fuel Pump, then Fuel Pump and Fuel Pump!

my car is the same vintage as yours and with 250k on the clock. It was doing sort of the same thing as yours until I gave it a good service, but I also cleaned the throttle body and the isc valve and also replaced the o2 sensor doing the last 3 things has made a dramatic difference to the old girl.

cheers and good luck.

Sounds like a clogged fuel filter, dodgy leads or fouled plugs.

well good news i replaced the leads and spark plugs as suggested and now it runs like a charm. number 4 spark plug lead was rooted so i would asume it was the problem.
thanks for all the help and feedback guys
