Interesting concept, reviewing a road car on the road. The fashionable thing would be to take it to a race track where a C-list racing driver can set hot laps and compare it to an SSV Redline to find the grand champion of doing things that 99% of owners will never do.

You forgot the bit about sticking it on a dyno and publishing figures for the internet experts to argue over

When the healthiest of these stock xr6 sprints are running flat 12s or quicker ill agree its the fastest 4.0 turbo ever... till then ill reserve my judgement.
To say it will smoke any fg f6 is inaccurate.
Yes yes I know qm times aren't everything.
I still say the fg f6 is the king over everything.

How do you test the performance of a performance car? Ford guys seem to have no problem taking it to the drag strip but a race track is a no no?

Put it this way, I dragged my Uncles 6 Sprint in my G6E Turbo (just sold for xr6 Sprint due on 2weeks) and got utterly molested. Kept up with him till about 30kmph and then I was left waving bye bye, at 130 he had 3lengths

I do agree with the reviewer when he says the Sprint "looks too tame" (in exterior appearance).

I think the F6 with its unique front grille and rear end treatment certainly looks tougher.

I also think the black "banana" "6" decal on the rear quarter looks very 1970's and should I dare say ... woggy.

Race tracks are big no nos, in fact they are the work of the devil in car reviews. My opinion, of course. I'd prefer the reviewer's opinion be formed from driving on real roads, ie, where the cars are actually driven. The problem with race tracks is they simply do not represent the kinds of roads that people actually drive on. A great car on a smooth, wide, grippy race track may not be a great car on your favourite mountain road. This is precisely the reason Holden softened up the series II Redline. The series 1 was a great track car, but simply too firm on real roads. Flawed, uneven surfaces are the enemy of a series 1, they start to get very taily and misbehave. Monster rear sway bar and firm shocks will do that every time. It worked great on a race track though. Motor Trend noticed something similar recently- the '14 SS was appreciably quicker around Willow Springs than the '16 SS, yet the '16 was the better driver's car.

If we're strictly measuring performance, again circuits fall over because they're all different. A drag strip, however, is a universal measurement. I can expect to run in the same ballpark at any 1/4 mile drag strip that I visit. Circuits, not so much. Which circuit do we test on? A tight, technical circuit? A power circuit? If we compare an XR6 Sprint with an SS Redline on a circuit like Phillip Island, I can see the SS being in big trouble. On a tighter circuit like Wakefield Park or Marulan? The advantage tips in the SS' favour. Different tracks, different requirements. That's why racing cars are set up differently for each venue. Yet road cars are in a static state of engine and suspension tune. So while an SSV-R may be more competitive at one venue, the XR6/8 Sprint may have the edge at another. On top of that, how do we rate track work? A flying lap? How about 10 laps, flat chat. Which one can actually perform in a track environment? I think it would be foolish to judge the performance of a car based on a lap time from one particular track.

Does anyone have the details, from the meeting with Justin last night or otherwise, about the "run-in" period of XR6? Like to know in what ways or by how much the XRTS is restricted during run-in and for how long.

The lead designer of the sprint program had a wog name. A couple of wogs made Falcon what if is, if I recall rightly the BA Xr6 was penned by a wog.

At 276rwkw, it's no where near 370fwkw. I reckon this run in talk is a myth. What we need is a sprint owner who had 5000s or so to put theirs on the dyno and or take it down the 1/4 mile. With so many being sold were are they all. Let's see the numbers

I know if I had one it would have 1000ks in the first week and at least 3000-4000 in the first month Down the strip , on the dyno and then dropped off at the tuners for the Xtreme package. Hello to 400+ rwkw.

I'm not sure why the comparo's of the fgx sprint to previous model F6 and XR6T/G6ET..Can't we all just appreciate the best ever falcon was infact the last ever produced. And it was a turbo 6...maybe ford knew all along?

The best i saw that smoke grey xr6s run at the aff drag wekend was a 12.94 with a 115mph trap speed.

Back in 2012 my then bog stock auto fgf6 (complete with stock 245 dunflop tyres) ran numerous 12.5-12.7 1/4 with trap speeds all around 115-116mph, all runs were done on both lanes but it was noted that the left lane at heathcote seemed better for launching.
Maybe the FG being a bit lighter than the FGX helped there who knows but i think the 2 cars are pretty damn close at the strip overall...
