Dont run a sub without an amp....it wont be any good at all. The deck would not be able to power it, eg say your deck has 4x50wrms, and your hooking up a 600w max rated sub...your not gona get any more sound than your 6x9's in the parcel shelf.
Have a look at strathfield, there is heaps of cheap amps to hook up. Its easy you run power cables, a preamp-out cable from the deck, and a little cable to turn on the amp when the deck is on. May i suggest the boss1000w amp, its about $180. You could use it to power the two 6x9's at more power than the deck could + you could hook up a subwoofer. UTZZ UTZZ

Your deck would have a max 200w of output...no matter how many speakers or subs are connected to it, its still only gonna be 200w's worth of sound.

i got a clarion package from autobarn!, was ~$500 came with 2 x 10" subs, in a box, plus the amp.
i fitted it and wired it all up in under an hour. and it was WELL worth the money i tell you... these guys are telling you to save your money for good reason, dont do it by halves, you'll only be disapointed with the sound. |

i wouldnt get 6x9's either....waste of time...(and yes i have a pair)
just get some nice 6" splits for the front, some nice 6" 2ways for rear fill, and get nice sub / subs and you're gonna be sounding great.... |

200w to a sub from ya headunit! HAH hardly
its like 50w max by 4 channels so even if you run it off one of the channels for starters thats only 50w MAX and then when you work out rms its like 22w RMS going to the sub you wouldnt even notice it was connected. as everyone else has said you NEED an amplifier to run a sub.. |

You're better off just buying an amp and amping your 6x9s if you want just a bit more DOOF ;)

just running afew wires from the deck and positive from battery; your RCAs and remote wire and then your positive and negative from the amp. Then just use ya speaker wires to the subbie or 6x9s! easy as

also wouldnt bother running sub off deck. not worth the effort even fitting one! straithfield always has a bargain, thats where i got my first system! $500 is pretty much the goin rate for basic setup from anywhere, and you'll get a reasonable amount of bass out of one aswell : haha

LOL! A few tips for cheap installs, I remember reading but i don't remember where. If you want some cheap power cables go to BOC gas or another welding place and ask for "welders flex cable". The other thinner guage cables (remote and speaker cables can be picked up cheap at jaycar) RCAs youll need to buy Pick up a few old desks from the side of the road on council pick up night and use the MDF or particleboard to make some sub boxes. Bunnings have car carpet for the box, 1200mm wide, at $16 a metre. No need to carpet the bottom of the box, spray it black and staple gun some velcro to attach the box to the boot carpet.. Then all you need is liquid nails for sealant and to attach carpet. You could possibly have a custom made sub box and install for under $50 depending on how stingy you can be. Then all you need is an amp and speaker/sub |

Dole money don't get you nowhere. As for the topic, run an el cheapo amp with an el cheapo sub until you can afford to upgrade to something better. Installing yourself, I wouldn't know. I couldn't trust myself to install because I'd either wreck something electrical, or I'd get electrocuted...
