Angry Hotmail theft!!!

Some very inconsiderate person has stolen my e-mail address lseglins@hotmail.com

They've changed my password, secret question and answer and have access to all of my personal information.... I have no idea who it is except that their hostname was 220-245-176-181-sa-pppoe.tpgi.com.au and their IP was 220.245.176.181. I found these out through a random email I recieved from my stolen address to my other address...

Does anyone know what I can do in this situtation? Someone has a hell of a lot of information about me and I have no idea who it is...

Luke

Not much you can do mate, back in the day (puts flame suit on) i used to pinch peoples hotmail accounts to use to break into other peoples computers and depending on who it was i would give the account back so you might get it back..... And no it wasn't me i haven't done anything like that in years.

Happened to me about a month ago, hacked into my hotmail and ebay and bought 8 brand new laptops. Lucky ebay and hotmail were quick to fix the problem so email hotmail asap and they should fix it pretty quickly. And change your password to something difficult.

Goodluck with it all

One possibility since all your info changed is that you left the email unused/didn't log in/ check emails in a long period of time. Can't remmber the exact amount of time off top of my head sorry, but if for instance you left it long enough, it is possibly for someone to sign up with the same address. By sounds of it this didnt happen, but though't i'd mention it just in case.

No dramas as of yet, the jobsearch website SEEK were very helpful in deleting my account for me, as somehow they got into that too.

I've contacted Micro$oft, but they haven't helped me at all. So hopefully this problem will just go away.

You should use something complex for your secret question. Such as what is your license number or something.
Bit harder for someone to crack your hotmail then, unless they manage to get a hold of your license that is.

How come you can't create your own secret question anymore? You have to select from a drop down list. This thread prompted me to change mine.

I love those hoax emails.

Hi,

We are currently experiencing some technical difficulties. please supply your username and passoword immediately.

always worked for me, people are so stupid.

i had a weird and long password for ebay, yet i get an email saying i could face losing my account and being sued because i was selling fake items. some guy tried selling a motorbike and a couple of laptops on my account. the password was bloody 10 characters long.

Someone attempted mine recently, so I changed my password to be very high encryption style, since then it stopped.

It isn't that hard to get into most hotmail accounts if you know the person. Why people put obvious secret questions I'll never know. I don't even know what mine is, I just mashed the keyboard.

I'm pretty sure it's 30 days...

This is why you don't use HotMail or (any other free e-mail services) for e-mails of importance (work, banking, eBay, etc;)

Cheers,

Cheers,
If you were using it for emails of importance you would be using it more often than once a month.

I only said that because it is a classic case of people using web based email for emails of importance...

i've never used my full details on anything except my net provider
i always use fake names numbers etc so its never traced to my actual net provider etc though if your a hacker you'll get almost into anything anyways.

more then likely some teens from asia/india having a midday bit of fun hacking stuff more likely.
