AH! This sucks! Rant!

Now I know my sooking wont get me anywhere, but I want to see what others think.

I went to the car this morning to see that I had a ticket, I though WTF, I haven't done anything wrong!

So I read the ticket and apparently its against the law to park your car faceing the "wrong direction". What a load of crap!

I can understand if it was on a major road, that very busy, but I parked in the street that I live in, in a residentual area, that is quite as hell and only has a primary school opposite it.

Its a small street, verging on a lane, and I was parked in my spot outside my house. The only reason I parked in the "wrong direction" was because I entered from the other end and just parked straight up in my spot. Basically I CBF'd doing a 3 point turn. No harm done.

I dont see how my car facing the other direction makes any difference to anything. It takes up the same amount of space even if it was facing the other way and was in its alloted space.

How does it break any laws? Its not harming anyone, its plainly visible (if you cant see it then you shouldn't have a licence).

It seems to be another one of those crap laws to get a few extra bucks. Its only $65 but Ive been having a good run of late.

And to top it off, it was given at 8:44AM, what kind of loser gives out that kind of ticket at that time, and how the hell checks this crap in residentual areas!

If it was on a main street then obviously Id never to do as you would have to cross onto the wrong side...lol...but in a tiny residentual area what difference does it make!

Im bloody fuming...what a waste, should have parked in a loading zone!

That's bogus! I don't see what's wrong with parking the wrong way at all. I do the same sometimes, so I guess I'd better stop doing it, if I'll get fined

Issue is that you have to drive the wrong way up the street as you take off... I've been booked for this before too. Yes, it sucks.

also the fact that during the night oncoming cars would not have the benefit of seeing your reflectors on the back end of the car, I know it sucks but it is the rules

stiff biscuits, if you weren't aware of that Law you shouldn't have got you licence, it's as simple as that. i thought it was quite obvious that you can't drive on the wrong side of the road.

People drive on the wrong side of the road all the time, when you are going down residentual streets with cars parked everywhere.

I wasn't driving it was parked.

this happened to me a while ago but it only cost me $30 it was at like 11:30pm was a very wide residential street that wasnt very busy gave me the *****. To top it off the hub caps were stolen off the car the same night.

You crossed the opposite lane in front of potential oncoming traffic and you have to do so again to get back on the road. This is dangerous.
This happens a lot up here with european backpackers not knowing Australian law. There have been several accidents because of it.

You couldn't do a U turn and park correctly? Too hard? Too lazy?

Hey why not drive down the wrong lanes on the freeway during peak hour, they are always clearer, or when you are on a single lane road and there is traffic coming the other way pass on the right rather than the left?
Or drive with your lights off on a moonlit night or in well lit urban areas?

Some of the road rules are based on common sense, this is one of them.

Write a letter. Explain that you were unaware la la la..... Being council you will probably get off with a warning if you don't abuse them. It sounds pathetic but laws is laws, made for the good of the majority not for the individual.

very well said. this is selfish behaviour. there are too many people on our roads who think it's all about 'me'!!!

I believe it has something to do with reflectors on your car.
The reflectors (red) are only on the back, so they would not be seen at night.

If I could be bothered Ill take a pic of the "street", and you will see how much of a joke it is.

Yes, I was to lazy, the only people that travel down it are the residents, say about 20-30 max would come down during a normal day.

edit: actually thats a huge number, there are only 12 houses in the street.

That highway example is ridiculus, and a complete exaggeration. There are no lanes, no lines, nothing.

For the record, im not a dill, ive had my licence for 6 years with no accidents, fender benders or anything like that. I aced my tests and know the laws, ive either forgotten, or never heard of this law.

Like I said, I would NEVER think of doing it on a busy road.

Pretty clear cut rule on this one im afraid mate. Actually i think it was one of the theory questions when i got my Ls 9 years ago!

You cant differentiate between quiet and busy roads. You only need 2 cars to have an accident.

Dont mean to sound harsh but suck it up i reckon... you got caught fair and square.

Pay the ticket and move on

And dont park like that

Yeah I agree, I was curious to know whether others had been done for it.

Like I said in the first post, I know I can do nothing about it, just frustrating as there is no possible way anyone could have been harmed.

Sorry no sympathy from me - people doing this is one of my pet hates - you should do a 3 point turn and park properly.

P Platers are notorious for it until they get booked...

Yeap I guess it is lesson learnt, I dont do it all the time, maybe once or twice before; definately not a habit.

Thats one law I hate....I was surprised to learn it existed when I arrived here in Aus...you're allowed to do it in the UK...ah well...you broke the law...even it is a little harsh...

I have been booked for the same reason, tried to fight it and no good... They referred me to the exact law too! (can't remember it now as it was a while ago!) ...

i have also been booked for parking half on my driveway (if can picture it, front end of my car in driveway and backend onto the footpath without touching the road)

I have learnt now though!

I parked like this once out the front of my house, the lady over the road reversed out of her driveway and into my front LH guard, Insurance company did not want to know as I was Illegally parked and the lady did not want to pay up coz i was illegally parked. 3 yrs later and I am finally getting it fixed.

I think it would be only fair to give the man a warning or what not before fining them, fair enough polyal was in the wrong, but he didnt even know it, and if people wanna blame him because he didnt read every little section of the law outlaid in front of him, on the excited day of him getting his P's, then i think that's rediculous

pehaps i didn't, i've had a parking ticket, because i was stupid and left the car too long. i accepted it. i didn't jump on a forum and have a whinge about it. we all do silly things most of us learn from it and accept it. too many people use ignorance as an excuse these days. "oh i didn't know" or "no one told me". it's his responsability to learn the laws, nobody elses!

I think it's a fair enough fine, I would have thought most people would have known this law & understand why it's in place.
To park facing traffic you have to drive on the wrong side of the road & more importantly at night it is dangerous as people won't see the car until they're much closer to it & when they do could freak out seeing a car facing them & swerve dangerously.
Getting a ticket always sucks but it's a cheap fine & you don't lose any points so I'd wear it & learn for the future.
