The most cost efective is to go and buy some cheepy "hollowfill" pillows, pull all the stuffing out of them and use that. works very well and is very simalar to the proper stuff.
Pillows= about $4.00 Accustic filler= about $25.00+ for the equililant amount. David

I used Sound Deadener (Dynamat). It stopped all rattles for me and made a really nice crisp bass note.

spot light sells some stuff which is pretty much a inner pillow liner, exactly the same as the sub box liner, its about 10bux iirc.

the proper stuff is called Dacron. You can pretty much use anything like soft toy stuffing or whatever. Just visit Spotlight they'll have something. Personally I think it's like many things in car audio that I'd call a "1% factor". That is, it basically does jack to the sound. I'd put it in the same category as capacitors.

i think ull find that it gives the sub woofer the impression of a bigger box, and itll give u a little bit more bass. wont stop any vibration at all, your boot will sound like your mums vibrator on a tin roof, but you get that

sphell, if you think capacitors do jack, try and run an amp more powerful then 300 watts, and see how your lights dim when the bass go off, i gaurentee you capacitors give you a LOUDER and better sound if you have your lights dimming,
<3 capacitors die sphell

The only way you will get a decient bass note from a sub is 1. Build a box designed for that paticular sub and 2. Power is propperly. As stated aboce the filler only gives the sub the impression of a slightly larger box and helps with a little "ringing". your box should be totaly sealed, air tight with the excepton of the port if you have one. Enjoy. David

The filling of sub boxes with dacron is an old trick used to try and fool the speaker into thinking (and reacting) like it is in a much bigger box than it actualy is. Its been 4 or 5 yrs since ive been into the audio caper but like Sphel has said its a 1% thing for final tuning. It is NOT to be used to stop boxes ratteling. If your box rattles its crap, throw it out.
My two cents on capacitors. if you need one, your electrical system is a JOKE! I had over 2400wrms to subs and 1600wrms to front speakers at one stage, and not one capacitor. My lights didnt dim either
