Hi, just a bit unsure of some facts.
Which AUs had the live-axle setup and which ones had the IRS? Was it later series that got the IRS or specific models? Thanks |

All AU's from series 1 had IRS on the XR6 VCT (not utes), XR8 (not utes), Monty Ghia, Fairlanes and LTD's.
Also, all the T Series had them. It was also an option for all other models although it was rarely taken up.

AU2's & 3's had IRS with the sedan XR6 VCT models. Not sure on the AU1 though? Casper?

ALL AUI/AUII/AUIII Fairmont Ghia, XR6VCT, XR8's, Fairlanes and LTD's had IRS standard.
IRS was also an option on the Forte, Futura and Fairmont Sedans. No option for IRS on utes and wagons. |

So the only sedan you couldn't get the IRS on was the XR6 HP, due to the XR6 VCT model.

What benefits would IRS have over standard?
My mates R33 has it but axle tramps really bad when driving spiritly around in circles

Also the premium models had a non Adj camber bolt for the upper control arm.
Which if you lower the car you have to get the camber kits that was fitted to the XR's or face cutting the rear tyres life short.Set up correct with lowered springs and performance shockers plus new performance tyers the IRS really grabs around cornners. buickman Last edited by buickman; 17-05-2005 at 10:03 PM. |

The XR6 IRS is FAR FAR FAR too stiff. I'm getting mine lowered and dramatically softened in a few months. I dont get axle tramp but by god the ride can be harsh over a choppy surface.
It never bump steers at all (not once in 2 years) and really does grip extreamly well but its far too firm, a bit of softening and it will be so much better.

Our AUII Fairmont has it, I was actually under the impression it was standard on Fairmont (non Ghia) too as I have never seen one without it?

No point just slapping them in without doing all the shocks and setup right.

Still figuring that out. Probably just Monroe GT's for a start till I can work out whats the best for my needs. So many choices unfortunatly.
