Pinstriping - why did they bother?

Tackiest crap ever to be put on a car!:

Im having some issues getting it off, and I want to know if anyone has any quickish ways of getting it off?

Mine is patchy in areas, and in some only has the glue stuff there but its hard as buggery to get off because its been like that for a few years I guess and has 'baked'.

At the moment I am using a hairdryer, trying to heat it a bit and then getting some metho and a credit card onto it.

Is that the usual way? Any other liquids that will work better?

Im soo over rubbing 1cm at a time, its going to take forever!

Um don't know mate.... I wouldn't mind to know either, I want mine off too...

took me ages to get mine off to, i just persisted with it. i used a heat gun on mine and my fingernail.

Doesn't any of the paint come off when you do that?

not sure the name of it, but this has been covered in another thread there's a special product made for it, it gets rid of any residue, even that thick **** thats a bee-arch to get off

nah, nothing a good cut and polish wont fix, which is what I want to do but can not until this crap is gone; its disgusting!

you use wax and grease reomver to get the residual glue off then you will haveto give it a polish on the areas you rubbed.

First you peel the stripes off, and then wash the glue away with either eucalyptus oil (which is perfect for this!) or even something like prepsol, but it doens't work as well.

Pinstriping is very gramps. On dark cars it doesn't look too good. I quite liked the black pinstriping on white paint. I too got rid of mine, however I just let the panel beater do it, it was in there at the time, figured he might as well do it.

Too much effort. Besides, I barely even notice the pinstriping on my car.

Wait for summer.
Then go out and peal them of.
Once the paint has cooled down usr 'prepsol' this will remove the sticky stuff.
I would recomend you give the car a cut and polish.

what stripes are we talking about? the side mould stripes are part of the mould..The bumper strips pull out and double sided tape holds them fine

i removed the strips on my wheels arches and the crap left behind in some places was very hard to get rid of......i still have a tiny rock hard bit of glue crap......i just used figernails and lots of cut and polish

No, the pinstripe is basically a long sticker that runs along the line that goes from the top corner of the front indicator, right to the edge of the taillights (that line that sits about 2" below the side windows, that goes through the doorhandles). It was an option with the luxo models (but somehow my parents got one for their GLi)

Well, I was a staunch Amber Indicator Traditionalist <tm> then converted...

But for now the pinstripes will stay. Maybe some chrome/silver coloured pinstripes could replace my white ones... Plus some chrome/silver E-Series stickers to match... Plus chrome doortrims like Johnny Z has on his 'burb spec Ghia :Reverend:

I have got'em on My GL???


And chrome sounds good... were can I pick up a set of the chrome strip that goes in the middle of the moulds? HOw much.... I was thinking of colour coding the moulds as well... And buying EF Door handles, How easy is it to install the Door handles???

The chrome strip is part of the mould so you have to buy the entire mould. In the front and rear bumper, the chrome strip is seperate so you can buy it fairly cheap from Ford (It's sold by the metre). New side mouldings aren't cheap. I got quoted $50 per door to replace mine, because my side chrome is stuffed. Understandably I didn't replace them. You could try the wreckers but good condition chrome is not easy to find.

And about the pinstripe, maybe they were available for the entire range, not sure. But they look crap.

ford dont sell the side woulds anymore for ed's anyway and also u can buy some chrome stuff from autobarn i dont no how much it is but they had to replace it on my car wen i got the front resprayed. i dont mind my pin striping either but i must admit it does look good without it but how long would it take to get off coz if it take ages and will wreck my paint then it can stay there.

i had 2 chick friends come over got them to help i sat there drinking a beer they did the whole car, it works quite well and takes no effort,

i recently repainted half of my sierra so the pin stripes came off one side but the other side was left a bit dull and out of place.... so that had to go to, i was a bit worried about it taking off the paint aswell, but my mate said he had this drill attachment at his work nicknamed the caramel wheel and guaranteed me no paint removal. so that weekend we took the beast into his work and within minutes the pin stripes were no where to be found, surely enough with no paint removal
And as for an earlier question about how easy it is to instal ef/el door handles to an ea-ed, its easy, two nuts on each door handle and a clip for the linkages, just watch out for the rear passenger door as the central locking and a stupid metal plate which looks like it serves no useful purpose gets in the way and becomes very annoying..... but other than that, its easy
