Default Ford Mondeo gets EcoBoost engine with 149kW

Nothing new but I think this article confirms that the EB2.0L will replace the current 2.3L engine.

The quoted fuel consumption figures are very impressive as well as the 0-100km/h.

The Mondeo is also now available with Ford's PowerShift dual-clutch gearbox, which comes standard with the new 2.0 liter EcoBoost and is an option with the other new engine for the Mondeo range - the 163 PS (120 kW) 2.0 liter TDCi diesel. Fuel economy on that power plant is 53.2 mpg (imperial) or 5.3 liters/100 km with an average CO2 emission of 139g/km.

Mondeo, along with the new S-MAX and Galaxy models now on sale, spearhead the European introduction of Ford's global EcoBoost petrol engine technology.

The 2.0-litre EcoBoost has an advanced combustion system which brings new levels of performance and fuel efficiency to petrol units in this power range. The engine features lightweight all-aluminium construction, the latest-generation high-pressure direct-injection system, low-inertia turbocharging and twin-independent variable cam timing.

With a maximum output of 203PS at 5,500rpm, combined with maximum torque of 300 Nm delivered across a 1,750-4,500rpm range, the EcoBoost engine enables Mondeo to achieve 0-62mph acceleration in 7.9sec (8.2sec for the estate) with a top speed of over 144mph for four and five-door versions (141mph for estates).

A key benefit of Ford EcoBoost technology is its ability to deliver excellent fuel economy and CO2 emissions as well as impressive performance. Combined fuel economy is as low as 36.6mpg* which translates into average CO2 emission of just 179g/km. Compared with the previous Mondeo 2.3-litre automatic, CO2 emissions are reduced by 19 per cent while the new Mondeo EcoBoost delivers 25 per cent more power.

that's almost as much as my old el falcon, which had 157kw, but a tad more efficient.

this is pretty impressive when you consider the current XR5T puts out something in the order of 220PS (162kw) and 320Nm with a reported 0-62mph (0-100) time of 7.5sec and top speed of 160mph (260km/h)

Although the XR5 Mondeo engine is somewhat de-tuned straight out of the factory. The performance gains that can be made are far in excess of these official figures, when a more aggressive tune or modifications are made.

The Turbo EcoBoost is somewhat of an unknown - at least, in Australia. So not sure if the engine will have the same final power.

But I do agree - those figures are quite impressive. But not exactly mind blowing. I will be taking one out for a test drive just to compare when they are finally available.

The 2.5L in the XR5 is a sweet engine and there is no doubt it is a great package.

What I find most impressive is that this 149kw appears to be a direct replacement for the current 2.3L engine and not the 2.5T. So chance are a more powerful version may be released later as a replacement for the 2.5T.

It is even more impressive when you compare it to the 2.3L (EB2.0T vs 2.3L):
Power output: 149kw vs 118kw
Torque output: 300Nm vs 208Nm
0-100km/h: 7.7sec vs 10.5sec
Consumption: 7.7l/100km vs 9.5l/100km

That is an interesting point.
There was talk/rumors of a twin turbo 4 pot to provide the sporty option.
That would be an interesting engine for sure.
Cause the only thing better than a single turbo is two right? ;)

Really? Wouldn't of known.
I was speaking from my own personal experience.
Stock XR5.
Put in an airbox spacer, and found it rev'ed much freer.
Got a bluefin tune and felt like a totally different car.
And now just waiting for a CAI kit to come in from the UK.

So when I am talking mods, I was talking pretty low key.
Nothing too extreme like new turbos, injectors or bigger intercoolers.

Not bad specs look at the BMW 330d [ 180Kw @ 520Nm ] considered one of the best diesel car but the price is almost double if not more than the Mondeo!!
