Default LZ Focus High beams activate when indicating left!

Hi all, recently driving the folks LZ Focus (all of this is without the headlights on and the switch is on auto) and discovered that the high beams come on and stay on when I indicated left. I had to pull the stalk back to “flash” the highs to turn them back off BUT if I just pull the stalk back to “flash” nothing happens, however pushing the stalk forward will actually flash the high beams.
I think it’s likely the “stalk” assembly at fault? Any other ideas?

I'd say you are right. There are a lot of very light gauge wires in those stalk assemblies and it wouldn't take much for a couple of those to start shorting.

Drove it again today and it didn’t repeat the problem once.
I have driven it a few times and the problem was there all the time and this morning it was fine.
Intermittent problems are the worst type of problems.

I call the problem as tracking on the indicator switch. But, if it doesn’t recur, then no problem!

It’s back!! So what’s your diagnosis? I am still leaning toward replacing the stalk assembly.

My Mondeo was intermittently leaving one side parking lights on. There was a buildup of crud on the switch surface. Cleaned it up, and lubed with dielectric grease.
An easy job, cos they are modular on the Mondy, not sure about the Falcon.

It’s a Focus, it’s a bloody annoying fault to have!

Question Re: LZ Focus High beams activate when indicating left!

Ok. Pulled the indicator switch assembly out, which was really easy actually, and there is something inside rattling about so I am now fairly certain that is definitely the culprit.
I’m going to try fitting a secondhand unit first ($85) as a new one is $186 or so.
Also Ford want $165 diagnosis fee, even if they just get in flash the high beams and say yep it’s the stalk. $165 thanks. Then they want and hours labour (it only took me 15 minutes) whatever that would be, let’s say $90? and the part at $186 puts it around $450 minimum.
DIY if you can folks!

Just to finish off this thread, the stalk was indeed broken internally and the new replacement for $85 has it working as it should again.
Simple fix requiring very little know how, under 5 minutes from start to finish.
