Hi
I have a fairmont ghia au2 i6 and the power steering pump is leaking onto the alternator so i have to replace it.Does anyone got any ideas of someone in the sydney area that specializes in power steering pumps. Is it better to get a new one or a reco one. I rang Ford and they want about $500 to supply and install. Another place i rang said $160 supply and install a reco one and 1 year warranty or $240 for a new one supply and install. Any help will be much appreciated. Regards Fernando |

If i were you, Id forget getting ford to do anything unless you have big wads of cash to throw away.
Those other prices you mention sound reasonable. But for the sake of an extra $80 get a brand new one supplied and fitted. they usually have a better warranty than a reco one. I cant help with any good locations as Im in SA, but ringing around prior to making a choice is always a good start.

Mine had the same problem and I had to get a brand new alternator. But to fix the power steering pump I bought a sealer chemical which you put into the pump oil. It has fixed it for about 8 months. There's idea to think about.

Are you sure its the Unit itself or is it just the Hose where it comes out of the back .. Ill have a ask at the wreckers tommorow for you ! Daniel

The pumps are the same from EF right through to AU3 if that helps and as has been mentioned it is commonly the hose at the back of the resevoir that buggers up.

G'day
Mine too is leaking from the power steering pump, but as AU2PWR had stated it seems to be the hose at the back (high pressure hose according to my mechanic). About $200 from ford, or good'ol ebay has them for about $70. I know where I'm getting mine |

There is a Metal Connection from the Pump to the hose .. if its leaking .. its your Problem

Also if getting the HP hose replaced ... get the teflon o-ring that is meant to go with it as well.
As for a mechanic in Sydney ... I use and recommend Crescent Motorsport in Liverpool for my work ute (and now Territory as it is out of warranty).

Thanks for everyones input.It was the high presure hose i got it done at a place in Auburn Sydney called CV JOINT they sell their staff on ebay as well. It cost me $60 for the hose and $50 for install with 12 months warranty. |
