Default Do I have to log off?

Once or twice I have been logged on to this forum and, without thinking, closed the web site without logging off first. In fact I just did this(accidently) and when I re-opened the site, I'm still logged in. I guess I should log off before I close down but if I forget, what happens?

Probably best to ask in the Site support section and not the Territory section.
There's a check box (if ticked) allows you to stay logged in even when the webpage is closed.

If your not on a shared computer then there isn't really a reason to log off each time you leave. As others have said, saves time
