looking at buy a spare c3 automatic transmission for my 1967 Ford Cortina it had a 1600 Kent engine and was wondering how do you identify the gearbox.
I've been told there are 3 different types. If anyone can tell me how to tell the difference or how to identify my gearbox that would be awesome :-) |

There will be a number on the side of the gearbox but I didn't think the C3 came into use until around 1973 as the plant it was manufactured in didn't open until then.
I thought our models were equipped with a Borg Warner 35 3-speed auto.

To be honest I'm not sure the previous owner told me it's a C3 transmission. This weekend I will get under the car and will have look.

I think Russ is on the money.
Theres little to no info on the net about them but I did find this. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Borg-W...5_transmission Looking through my workshop manuals they're giving detailed instructions on how to rebuild them but at no point do they say what the box actually is However the MK1/2 manual is saying they're the same between the two marks. And heres a pic from the factory Mk1 manual so, hopefully, you know what you're looking at and for. Hope that helps.

For what it's worth, ALL Mk.1 Capri's, both 1600cc and 3000cc models, used the Borg Warner 35 Auto. The same automatic as used in Cortina's and Escort's, with the same gear ratios. In the official Ford Australia Capri manual from 4/69, it doesn't state the make of auto box but mentions under Tools Required, that you need BW1A, pressure test gauge, BW35B, bench cradle, BW38, Hydraulic test equipment (adaptor) and BW 547-50-3A, Inhibitor switch lockout adapter. All the Capri brochures released from 1969 through to the end in late 1972, all just state that a 3-speed auto with T-bar floor shift is available as an option, no mention of Borg Warner by name, as Rallye Sport indicated above.

good news everyone I managed to discover I have a boger warner automatic transmission in my 67 cortina 😁 with a serial number 1797

Cool - I was pretty sure that's what we used here and I'm not even sure if we changed when the UK did to use the C3 with the MkIII as I think we were more focused on local content at that point.

My Manual lists it as a BW35 the manual it
is listed in is Autobook 810 by Kenneth Ball |
