So I'm looking at getting back into a V8 and am wondering how those that have young kids go about the V8 noise? Let's say hypothetically a BF GT with full exhaust as an example. I'm just wondering as we are expecting and I don't want to go out and buy a BF GT or VE Clubby if it's going to affect the little guys hearing. I would be doing a full exhaust, headers cats etc

I can't imagine anything like that doing damage to a child's hearing unless it was a open headers V8 or something like that.
If it was me as a little kid I would be saying " daaad, make it do the vroom sound" |

Haha yeh, I though as much. I just know all my mates sold their V8's for a "family car" as soon as they had kids. Wife is all for me getting back into a V8 (even though she doesn't want to sell the FG XR6T) so that's a plus. Was just worried as I know my old VY clubby was quite loud.

my xr8 is louder outside than in, even with the bimodal d/c
stop "kidding" yourself, you know you're going to do it anyway - just go do it.

when you drive, you drive away from the sound, he'll be fine
I think you should buy a v8 if you have a son you owe it to him |

WTF?
What exactly is "V8 Noise"? By far the noisiest thing I have in my garage is my lawnmower. (ie ONE cylinder) A V8 can and should produce a nice burble. Or you can take ANY car, fit defective exhaust and make it sound like a chainsaw. Back in the 70's bogans would just punch holes in their mufflers to achieve the desired "roolly hot" sound. Now CUBs like to boast on how much money they have wasted to achieve the same anti-social effects. If that's your plan, please go for the "VE Chubby". Any possible ill effects to the child can be offset with an appropriate Mullet and new Flanny. On the other hand, it should still be possible to make a GT produce a nice burble, with appropriate exhausts, and without shredding ear-drums or devaluing your neighbourhood. Just make sure you keep the V8 long enough for your son to be old enough to appreciate it, and to understand what we have lost. |

My old xr6 is by far the noisiest limo i have ever had , as long as its not drumming to much and uncomfortable in the cabin , i think it would be ok .

Up until recently I drove my te50 daily. Shopping, beach runs, school the lot. Never had an issue, unless you drop the pipes you will be fine. Kids or not drone is not cool.

My young fella came home from the hospital in the BF GT. Cried when he couldn't go on drives with me. Balled when I sold it.

Test drive a BF GT if you can mate. The FG XR6T as much as it pains me to say it..... would actually be the better car..........
You can't beat the noise of the thing though.

b2tf Junior arrives in Feb 2017 and all going to plan will inherit my EL GT when I'm too old to wipe my own bum. Wife doesn't have a problem with it apart from that fact that she wants 2 kids and I told her I will need to buy another GT for kid #2.

My thoughts on the reason for change are well known on this forum. The last four years taught me three things. I'm a V8 man, I'm a manual man and it's not all about speed for me.

Get the V8 sound into their brain from an early age, brain wash them into V8's is my thought. They will learn to love it and then want more!!

My newborn daughter came home from the hospital in my eb v8,its pretty loud and never bothered her one bit,she likes the rush of the fg turbo but when I start my v8 she gets so excited, its just awesome to watch, so her and I we have the same feelings towards cars right now, turbos are fast but boring and we would rather have a v8 lol

I wouldn't think so, but it all depends how loud something is or how long you're exposed to it. If that was the case half the kids born in the 70's would be deaf - and those cars didn't have the insulation of today's vehicles. I'd even go as far to say that a quiet rumble could have a therapeutic/sedative effect.
I used to shoot clay targets, and a lot of them. It wouldn't be uncommon for me to shoot between 100-200 12-gauge rounds on the weekends - and this is with 4 or 5 other people in close proximity doing the exact same thing, and not mentioning the other 50 or so people on the range. But I always used internal an external hearing protection. Most people don't know but a shotgun blast is as loud, and can be louder, than a jet engine,or a top-fuel dragster, and my hearing is fine. I was at an AC/DC concert last month and I asked my friends when does it start and they said ''it's almost finished''. |
