I know that there are parallel threads about this issue but,
Im planning to travel to Hawaii end of August i would like to know you pro's and con's for travelling during this period. Many people say if you are going to get it y ou are going to get it. Can i protect myself before i leave (apparently so) If i do go, and cop the flu while im overseas it can ruin my holiday!? What are your views about my dillema.I'm sure others are in the same boat. Paul

I'm taking my family over to Queenstown in 4 weeks time and I had the same problem as you - trying to work out whether we should go or not. At the end of the day, I thought bugger it, we haven't been on holiday as a family for years, so we're going.
I called up my travel insurance company (CGU) to make sure that we're covered for medical expenses if we somehow contracted the pig flu (we are). So if you're planning to go, make sure you do get some sort of travel insurance. Call around, check that they will cover you if you contract the pig flu, and if you need to cancel your trip at the last minute, they'll refund your tickets etc etc. Hope that helps. |

I'm heading for Singapore and Thailand in 2 weeks, but I'm not too worried. I could just as likely get it staying here as over there or on the planes.

Travel - no worries, if the thing mutates, it will most likely be a bugger next winter, not this one.
There are millions of people on the move everyday, today & tomorrow.

More things to worry about than swine flu. I'de still go OS. The way media blow things up these days it'll be too dangerous to do anything before long anyway

i'd definatly go.
chance of an aussie dying of swine flu is almost zero. The 1st guy to have it here in WA was perfectly fine, it was like a mild cold apparently.

What is nasty at the moment is that nobody (including people at risk) can protect themselves from it, whereas they can get protection from other strains with the annual vaccination. Me, I am a person who is at risk (Asthmatic and Diabetic), so while have plans to travel to Qld in July wouldn't make any more plans until I've have the upcoming vaccine. |

I reckon its mostly media beat up and yes of course I will travel but will probably postpone any future travel unless it’s important and we will avoid places where large groups congregate in air conditioning like....... cruise ships and planes.
Mind you if I had a cruise paid for I would still go but I will never stay in a window cabin again. Worked that out on our last 15 day trip. A/C was too stuffy on Celebrity. It’s never been a problem with Princess, Raddisson, Royal Caribbean or Norwegian lines. No I will never book with P&O. EVER. In future we will always get a balcony room from now on now just for the fresh air at night and during any daytime in room. Sure you still dine inside but they have certain precautions and the air always seems fresher somehow in those public areas. We met one woman on our last cruise who was locked up in her cabin for 4 days and they would not let her leave for any reason. She had some dogs disease and was vomiting and the other end too. She was sharing the room with a homosexual friend and he never got it. He joked she must have got it from him claiming that somehow he was probably immune from it as he had built up an immunity to that stuff over the years. Go figure. Bottom line. We will travel if we have to but have postponed a trip to Samoa we were thinking of doing in June July. Gunna enjoy Oz instead. |

if i were you , and if you have paid full costs . i would go.
i wouldnt personally be concerned about catching swine flu. at this stage all you get is a snotty nose ( big deal) for health reasons i would not worry . however for all the propaganda and quarantine going on with this virus , is the reason you need to think about . in the worst case scenario you would have to be unlucky to catch the virus . but if you do your only concern is quarantine and victimisation . |

100's of people die from ordinary flue..
This type was around in the 70's.. So older people may have resistance unless you have respiratory issues ... This is another Y2K ...

There are quite a few areas around me that have people with the swine flu. 2 of my workers got lunch yesterday at a Subway restaurant where 2 workers have just tested positive for swine flu, so they may have it next week. We all had a big laugh about it today though, they said they might get some days off next week...lol

I would still go. I mean, how can you worry about swine flu when you could be sitting on an amazing beach in Hawaii with babes bringing you out Cocktails and beer? Maybe that only happens in movies but you can still imagine...
I believe August is their warmer weather so I assume it'll be peak tourist time. Correct me if I'm wrong. Might be a con if you wanted to cruise it. I suggest seeing a doctor about your concerns on preventative measures before you travel. Also I believe if you contract swine flu anywhere in the world, you'd be put under quarantine and also would ruin the holidaying of people around you because they might be put under quarantine also. In my opinion, go on the holiday, have a rad time.
