I wouldn't rate their reliability to highly, most by now have very high k's or been molested.

they usually get a mention in any article on lemons. the worst torque steer ever yet still struggled to 16+ second quarter mile.

Exa depends on klms.... u looking at turbo or non turbo?

Either really. Preferably turbo. I'm not planning on buying a new car for about 2 months now. I'm just learning what's good and what's crap. I just thought the exa's looked nice.

how much do you want to spend... have you thought about an rs liberty? they can be found for around 8g now or even an subaru rx turbo if u like older styling.

i agree the exa isnt bad on the eye though... what power does a standard turbo one make?

The turbos have a reputation for unreliability (and remember they have probably been through a few hands by now). The Pulsar ET was a locally developed 4 dr hatch version with the EXA running gear but it had four wheel discs.

If you want to get the later N/A version see if you can still track down a removable sportsback (?) top from overseas (US and Japan) that way you would have the coupe (local removable top), convertible (no top) or wagon (sportsback) as well as the targa panels.

I don't think any of the EXA's were wonderful things when new and time hasn't been kind to them but if they float your boat ......

Doing a U turn in a Nissan Exa in less than 7 points is part of the practical test prior to being allowed to pilot a supertanker........

I'm assuming no. Maybe I should stick to the family and buy a good ol' Ford.

How do the 96 Lasers match up?

If your looking for fuel savings possibly the N13 Exas might do that, but they are a poor car.

If you really want to save fuel, try a Swift or Charade. A bit better reliability than a Nissan of that era. N14 Pulsars onwards should be ok.

By my own experience, an EL Falcon on LPG is cheaper to run than a 2000 1.8L Corolla on petrol.

The only EXA worth having...........


Christine Gibson broke her wrist the first time she drove it coz' of the torque steer. The guy that bought this was joking that he'd have to go to the gym..


If you find one that has done relatively low kms and one lady owner - excellent... but that won't happen too often.

If you see one in a yard- go and test drive it.... yes they had shocking torque steer, but that was almost a feature in cars of this time.... the old lasers didn't have because they didn't have enough power !!! (hehehe)

A good one is really hard to find- most have gone to the gods. But, they are great fun to have and drive around in..... N14 pulsars onwards are great - but then again the fiesta's run on the smell of an oily rag...

they are POS. I had their last model and the thing broke down left right and centre non-stop

Absolute lemons. Get a '94+ Nissan Bluebird SSS 330,000KM's and still going strong...

Basically they're a hairdressers car, gutless & horrible handling, a few of my mates had them when I was younger & my KF TX3 was a much better drive in every way. The targa top ones leak something horrible too.

One of my mates used to have one........The look alright and seem pretty flashy.

They are a piece of c**p and are not worth the hassle of buying. Wat you save on fuel you will use to fix it.

Three of the main ingrediants for a car to be an absolute POS are front wheel drive, built before 2003 and be turbo... The EXA wins hands down on all counts.

CAR BUYING TIP
Heavily modified cars should be avoided like the plague unless you are sure the work was done to a professional standard. Enthusiastic amateurs can come up with some shocking results.

This pretty much sums up every EXA I've ever seen.

i will not hear the VORTEX blasphmied in this thread... also only the NA ones with the ea82 in them were FWD the ea82t and xt6 were both Awd

i had a 88 N13 targa EXA as my first car, yes it had insane torque steer and no power, but it handled ok, and looked pretty good for a cheap car. Well it impressed non car people anyway... i never had any problems with it at all, but if i had my time again i would go for something different probabaly spend a bit extra and geta silvia.

Get a 120Y Datto. I've heard from many people that they are virtually indestructable. And cheap too. I had a 1981 Datsun Sunny. Was reliable enough and cheap to run, but met its demise when I had to replace the uni's, which was a throw the whole tail shaft in the bin and cough up $475 for a new one. I bought the car for a carton of Coronas. Also, Jeremy Clarkson recommends the late 80's diesel HiLux for reliabilty. They put one through unthinkable punishment (parked on top of a block of flats, then levelled the building with explosives) and it still drove.
