Hey guys,
Recently one of my cats has collapsed, so I'll be going to get a quote on a full exhaust system on the weekend. I'll be looking at a set of pacemakers, new cats, and a twin 2.25" system. I want the thing to be a bit louder than it is now (Straight through redback 2.5" system) and have a deep throaty note with as little drone as possible. I was thinking a quality glass pack muffler on each 2.25" pipe should keep the noise within legal limits and still give it a tough note. Any opinions on systems that will give me the noise I am after? Or is what I've outlined above suitable? Most importantly, how much? I would think $2000 should be roughly the cost... I'll be going to Highpoint Exhaust, in Marybinong <sp?> Thanks, Allen.

Is that an "off the shelf" system, or will they be bending it up for you?? That seems like a good price to me, but then again you wouldn't have to worry about cats... I'll see how much they want to charge, and go around for some prices.
From previous experiance Highpoint Exhaust is top quality work and good prices... So it will be interesting to see how others will stack up against them.

Thats pretty good for a difilippo stainless... I assume your EL is a 4.0?
The twin system on the V8 calls for pretty much double the matierial... If that price was for a 5.0, then i'll be giving them a call! :P

$2k for an exhaust system? I wouldn't bother man! Fix up the cat and keep driving it unless you want to go all out with performance.

G'day Allen,
My system consists of the following: Pacemaker PH4000s Std cats (flanged) Custom cat-back - 2.5" twins to before diff - custom Y-piece - single 3" with a single deep-offset muffler The cat-back section was made at the shop. All of this came to $1100 fitted & the cat-back was all mild steel. If mine was 2.25 or 2.5 twin with two mufflers (smaller than the one I've got) I'd expect ~$1500 with mild steel, or around $2k with stainless. So if your setup is stainless I'd say the $2k quote is on the money for a custom shop-made system. Here's two quick clips giving an indication of my exhaust note http://www.myfilehut.com/userfiles/18161/ghia5l1.wmv http://www.myfilehut.com/userfiles/18161/ghia5l2.wmv |

Ive been searching around, and I can get extractors and hi flow cats for $1100... I can fit them myself and mate them to the existing redback system and live with that for a while. I'll still head around to the exhaust shop tomorrow and see what they will want... $2000 is just what I think they will charge, it could be considerably less. Thanks for that Dave, i'll have a listen when I'm on a computer with speakers! Your exhaust sounds similar to what I want to do, so I'll look forward to hearing it.

I got two quotes each from two different shops. Highpoint Mufflers want $700 just to replace my two cats, and $2400 for a full system. (pacemakers, cats and twin 2.25" Mild steel exhaust) Glenroy Exhaust want $600 to replace the cats, and $1800 for the full system as per the above specs... I'm starting to think it would be cheaper and easier if I sourced all the parts and bent myself up a system :P I'm going to hold off on getting anything done for the time being, as I have something else up my sleeve at the moment... But I'll just have to wait a few weeks to see how things pan out...

Might be a bit of a hike for you but give Barney at Hallam Performance a call.
A fair few guys on here with 5.0's have been there and got a twin 2.25" exhaust from him and have been very happy with the results, including myself.

I have heard nothing but good things about Barney, in your opinion how does his pricing stack up against the quotes that I got?
I would travel that far for the right price :P

At a guess a set of pacemakers would be about $850 or so.

Well i'll be giving him a call soon then... Seems to be nothing but rip off merchants in my area... :P
It still adds up to be roughly $1700 for the full system... I guess i'll bide my time for the moment. Thanks for that
