As somewhere full of scummy people which mummy and daddy told me never to go near :p

I've been there a few times, I don't mind the place really. Have stopped for lunch etc on longer trips.

I don't know where it got it's bad name from (perhaps it's changed in recent years), but I know it's got one! :

What is Ding Ding a homeless guy or something?

I used to defend Shepparton, when alot of people where saying the same things.. about leaving being the best thing, the place falling apart.. but over the last couple of years, as much as they pretty up the CBD and surrounding, theres still the same elements that are ruining the city.

ask some of the older people (even 30 year olds) about Ding Ding.
lets just say that he is/was a native that lived about the Queens Gardens, who was once a champion boxer but got hit too many times, then hit the drink all day, everyday.
one day, i personally witnessed him being hit by a car, only to get up and keep walking as if nothing had happened.
oh, as for the Ding Ding bit....yell it out in front of him and you better be able to run fast because he came out swingin with flashbacks of glory days.

its sad, i know. kids will be kids.

did they ever fix that stupid clock tower in the Mall?

Shepparton can't be all that bad, the BP servo heading into town from DECA has driveway service. Or is that that they are like QLD, ..........years behind!

No, Shepp is years behind. Someone put a neon sign up.. the world almost ended in Shepparton. The idea of a Club X nearly sent the city into civil war. Brothel.. the nukes were ready to fly.. thats shepparton for ya, nearly half if it populated with ultra-consersatives, while nearly the other half couldnt be any more the oppisite. The rest just sit back and laugh.

Doesn't matter where you live , someone always says "live somewhere else "

Seriously , I had to stay overnight last March , and one of the places TonkoXR8 suggested was "The Lake View c/van Park" (or something like that) It's advertised on the Net .

We rented a Cabin and "from an outsider" it was a good place to stay . Close to CBD , Clean , reasonably new cabins , reasonable price .

Hope this helps

I haven't really been up to Shep much, never stayed there over night but I have heard alot off stories about the place, when I started working in Medical Imaging at the Bendigo Hospital, a bloke that has worked there for 27yrs, told me to check out the address and details off the people that would come in for a OPG, (facial xray) on a Monday morning, he said you will be amazed on how many off them are young blokes that live in Shep or sorounding areas, and you know what, he was right, lot's off them hillbillies come down to Bendigo on a weekend to cause trouble.

Shepp's not that bad... Well it's not the best but still, there arn't any natives living in the Queen's Gardens last time I checked... As Tonko said Carrington would probably be the way to go if you want a hotel. What's on at DECA by the way?

Continue.

How does the town compare to other regional cities? Something must be up, when people in Melbourne raise their eye brows at the slightest mention of Shepparton.

dunno exactly why, but shepp is huge cross section of cultures, something that has always presented a problem.
i have resided at my fair share of towns and cities from melb to cairns. And in all fairness everywhere has somewhere undesirable.
sydney - western suburbs, brisbane - inala, townsville - south townsville
etc etc and so on, everyone could add to this with their own experiences.

it's probably less the 1% of people that ruin a place or event, and that is universal.

I have a heap of mates i went to school with that live in shepp, and have spent plenty of time there on the gas. Usually never miss carols by barrels or springcar, drive thru there most weekends.

And of course there is moooooving art

I've hear all the stories as well but have been out in Shep about half a dozen times in the last few years and have never had a problem, never even seen anything more than a bit of push and shove.
