Default Which Auto Shifter

Have to decide today which shifter to get. I've short listed 3 that I reckon are OK, and threw one in as a laugh.

Hurst Quarter Stick I like the Hurst as it seems simple, simple is nearly always better I think. Not a ratchet shifter though, not that I really care about ratchet.

TCI Streetfighter All TCI shifters seem to be more expensive, but from all accounts are a good thing. Ratchet action.

B&M Pro Ratchet Fairly common. A lot of people seem to like them. Ratchet.

And the last option, well, I cut and shut a EA 3 speed shifter to suit a C4. Thats what I'm using at the moment LOL. So ghetto. I can see me breaking the detent pin if I used it in anger.

Looking for experiences, what do people like. Or suggest another that I've left out. I don't really like the pistol-grip style shifters.

I like the TCI Streetfighter. They're all pretty cool though, so it doesn't really matter.

I have a Mega shifter in the XE.
Awesome shifter, not on your list though.

So I'd go Pro-ratchet

So do these only allow you to shift one gear at a time unless you hold the extra little lever thing?? im not 100 percent familiar with these, one you missed is BM Quiksilver. Its what im gettin for my C4 and you can put the standard prnd321 cover over it. makes it a bit less suss for the po-lice

out of the ones there, i like the pro-ratchet...
my brother in law had a megashifter in his torana and it was wicked...

whichever way you go, see if you can make up a fibreglass panel similar in shape to the opening in the console...... to neaten it up as much as ya can.....
will look good..

The only thing you will want to watch is that if you get pulled up theses day's with the new laws, just remember that they are illegal.

They are illegal because you cant see the shift indicator, as they are designed for left hand drive cars. I think from memory the only one you can use is the mega shifter for right hand drive. But having said all that my personal choice is the Pro-Ratchet. Why because it is easy to use one handed good positive revers lock out and looks good as well. Bj

Best response ever.

As BJ said the only legal shifter is the RHS megashifter or the factory one.

I dont think John would be worried. He has a lot more going in that car that they would pick on first.

Ended up getting the Hurst. Had a play with a ratcheting one, not really a fan.

Dunno what you're talking about Dan, its all factory.

Will still sort out a gear position indicator. Would like something like EA2BA has with a 7 segment display. Just need to work out how to detect gear position. Will probably sort something out with microswitches or perhaps a rotary potentiometer.

Also need to get a leather boot for it. Now to wire up the 2-step!

That shifter looks pretty cool still.

How does that one work compared to the ratchet types?

Is it easier to use?

I reckon. When its in 1st, you just push it forward as far as it will go for 2nd. Same deal for 2nd -> 3rd except you hold the lever. I was having a practice the other night and I can't imagine anything quicker.

Thats phat. Get some pics of river crossings! Been trying to find a cheapish RM250 or something as I live like 5 mins down the road from a motocross track. Cheapish and dirt bike doesn't really seem to mix though!

Thats pretty much the only thing left to do. Theres a few more little things I want to change first. Will probably get them out of the way this weekend & maybe next.

Its a bit of an animal with the new trans & converter though. Good for painting big black stripes on the freeway.

Definately will end up with a cage. I expect Calder to tell me to ***** off after the first time I run it there. Maybe I should tell them to ***** off until they have a decent return road?

I was buying a pro ratchet but ended up with a quicksilver because it suited my car more. Its a bit interesting because the shift pattern is reverse to the XR8.

Tufed6, can you let us know where your getting your cage sorted. I'm peicing together a pretty quick EF and will need to get one myself.
