Default Best glue for bonding rubber to metal?

I've got an SY Territory and the glass door in the boot is rubbing somewhat along the sill of the main boot door. I've got an idea that some 1.5mm rubber strips glued there would act as a nice landing pad, stop the rubbing and some rattles too.

What does everyone reckon? Not too concerned in price etc, would rather do the job right once

I can't really remember what I used it for in the past (I think it was to stick under the spoiler mounts on my old car to stop rattles from the stereo), but I have used sticky backed rubberised foam weather strip before. It's designed to go around the door frame of the front door of your house to stop the cold getting in I think. It can be bought from bunnings.

Silicone sticks anything to anything but make sure you use the non acidic type.

Just a thought. I have a canopy on the tub of my ranger and the rubber seal of the rear glass wore through the clear protective film on the tail gate and into the paint. I put down gaffer tape but that's not the point. Maybe line both surfaces with thinner linings to prevent that kind of wear.

Sika227 would do it. But for what OP wants, the self adhesive stuff at $10 per roll from bunnings would do the trick.

Agree. Self adhesive rubber would be best. Although the thread asked for a glue.

I used the soft part of Velcro that has the adhesive backing

Also used adhesive felt.
from Spotlight stores for both

Owned fords in past so had rattles

Thanks everyone, I'm willing to give the self adhesive stuff a go but because it's already making contact, I imagine it'd push it out of place and not last long if it doesn't have a strong bond.

Will give it a go none the less, then look at the the Sika227. I was thinking something from Sikaflex but people on the net just say that, 'sikaflex'. They make so much stuff, hard to know what's right

A search in the Territory section would have turned up a number of threads on this problem. Such as Upper tailgate rubbing

Ford had a few rubber stoppers to prevent this occurring but you can see the problem with that design below (they fall in/snap off) ;

The solution a number of us applied was the self-adhesive roll - but applied to the upper door internal plastic trim, not the lower door metal.

Mines still there many years later and working as intended

That actually looks really good! I might head down this approach

Shoutout to everyone in this thread! I got some tape from RS Online and put it on as everyone has, plus two squares of it where the two big rubber bump stops touch. No more rubbing and no more rattles!

I know AU Falcons like the back of my hand but nothing on Territory's, so didn't know this was a common problem
