Ah yes, it's been a while between fights and arguments, nothing like the monthly VFACTS thread to ignite it again

4x2 Ranger for new generation still up over old generation by a few hundred units each month.

Dismal numbers for Puma,

22x Fiesta ST?

WTF - Tesla 999%?

Also VW with 71.8% increase, ship must have come in or the glass BBQs were firing up for this month.

Big slump. Used car prices also continue their decline.

Speaking of VW, anyone got sales figures for Amarok? Be interesting to see how their Re skinned Ranger is doing, esp the petrol model.

I'd be surprised, don't think many customers have taken delivery yet.

Just did a quick fiddle on Carsales, there's only 3 Puma's for sale with under 1000km on the clock. I know it's not scientific, however when there is plenty of stock you get lot's of cars with 100-200km on them for sale which gets around FoMoCo's stupid dictate of no advertising of "new" cars.

Theres thousands of cars held up by waits for fumigation shipping schedules disrupted.
Etc etc etc.

The figures would be different if the thousands of cars held up by fumigation and shipping issues were at dealers.

Actually not the case.

biggest issue with new cars atm is PORT issues.

My dealer sold 40 new Fords in April and has 160 sitting either at the port of Brisbane or on a Boat just off the coast.

Toyota is the same.... Quarantine issues with seeds and bugs.

01/07/2023 should see sales drop off once full expensing of assets wraps up, alot of people who have cars on order who don't get them by 30/06/23 will likely cancel them.

It's supply that is the issue, not sales/orders. I would have expected Ranger and Hilux to be over 5000 cars for the month if they didn't have boats full of them waiting to dock, or stacks of them sitting on the docks in Thailand waiting for ships to be available, due to the scheduled ships being late due to the hold ups in australia.

It's not on sale yet. Will take a couple months for deliveries to start arriving.

2 months in a row of there being less that 100 cars separating No 1 and No 2 sellers. Amazing how close it is at the top.

Id love to see the mix of Toyota Hilux private vs. fleet. My guess is the private buyer is very minimal these days.

They should divide the stats by fleet/private or ABN/private purchases - is there any data collected on this?

Hopefully they start with the Ecoboost, not the diesel variants.

No one cares about diesel Amarok - review the one you can't buy from Ford.

Numbers are numbers to me thats all business looks at the mention of fleet to private sales.
My hunch re a good % of "private" sale buyers, lean more towards the cheaper Triton/Novara/Dmax etcetc....variants.
The copious ABN holders much like fleet, business purchase going the top 2 would also be mpov.

Its interesting no matter how far behind Hilux is they still retain alot of business.
You'd think once your that far behind with an ol chassis etc even business starts to look at the better product but seems not in droves.

I can understand from a business perspective, their dealership network and their parts holding is second to none - they carry A LOT of spares.

They'd have parts for a VDJ79 Land Cruiser in their dealership on the other side of the moon.

Fleets don't care about how good a car is, they just look at $$$$. And Toyota can do very good fleet deals.

Ford is growing in this area now though. Just got Telstra on board.

They used to have Telstra as a fleet customer, then they lost them at some point, now they got them back.

I suspect its been an attitude of drop fleets to chase more profitable customers like retail ones.

If that was me I'd be chasing more profitable customers like the retail ones as well as chasing fleets and trying to keep my existing fleet customers.

I reckon thats why Toyota does well they get private customers and are the fleet king.

Please explain.
Ford only sell two vehicles-Ranger and Everest

Puma Mustang Escape are all supply constrained.

So Telstra are buying some note some Rangers I assume?

correct Franco I'm with you, Toy can and is playing both fields whereas Ford only has 1 card.
Would Toy company care losing some fleet biz ? yes and no, they pick up bucket loads of private biz through their vast range of choices just as the sales show.
Ford as we know long ago went the high RRP profit, yes yonks ago had some good fleet biz Falcon days.
They recovered well going the high road, had to, better market I'm with them but they have nothing else to recover/pick up the loss of profit chasing fleet.
Why bother but their call.
Does it matter who has more fleet to private by vehicle, wouldn't mean much at all to me.
All comes down to the stratergy at the time, factory bonus time, EOFY deals, it changes monthly.

If ford are now chasing fleet sales that sorta shows maybe they can see that just chasing high proft sales is not the be all and end all.. u need to build volume also

Toyota has the whole kit and kaboodle covered - they offer more range and they chase fleets AND retail customers.

Yaris (micro hatch)
Corolla (small hatch + sedan)
Camry (medium sedan)
Yaris Cross (Micro SUV)
Corolla Cross (Small SUV)
CHR (Small SUV)
RAV4 (Medium SUV)
Kluger (Large SUV)
Fortuner (Offroad SUV)
Prado (Medium 4x4)
Land Cruiser (Large 4x4)
Hilux (Thailand Special)
VDJ79 (Turd rolled in glitter)
Hiace (Van)
Hiace (Bus)
Granvia (Fancy bus)
Coaster (Small bus)
GR86 (Nugget level performance)
GR Yaris (Micro hot hatch)
GR Corolla (Hot hatch)
GR Supra (High performance)

Thats 21 vehicles, covering everything from the 'no one wants these anymore' of the micro/small hatch and medium sedan through to the Thailand Special at the pointy end of VFACTS.

The reason Toyota was so far ahead of the rest at the end of the 2022 sales figures is they just cover more ground, they've got more options on the table.

Ford has 9 vehicles - out of those, one that keeps selling 0 every month (Transit bus), one that just got chopped (Escape), one is the 4x2 version of the same vehicle, and two that they actually care about selling.

At this point how are they any different than Isuzu Ute?

Exactly Franco. How many remember when Ford was at the top in the 80s.

They had:
Falcon
Falcon commercial
Fairlane
LTD
Laser
Meteor
Telstar
Courier
Econovan
etc.

Most of those were at (or near) the top of their respective segments & just like Toyota today, they could do no wrong.

Ford also have police deals stitched up. All VicPol divvy vans will be Ranger.

Few other things in the pipeline to expand.

Thank Christ, over a decade ago they changed over from Mercedes Vito to VW Transporter based Divvy Van/Brawler Van and I drew the short straw and had to build heaps of them - RIP Franco and RIP Victoria Police cause ****boxes.

Pretty sure those brawler vans are still in operation. I don't know if the divvy van deal also includes Transits for that purpose as well. I don't think so.
