Looks like Aston Martin has suffered from Chinese "price cutting"! perhaps something Ford and the new Falcon should be wary of.
http://www.motoring.com.au/news/2014...seg_4=Outbrain I know most stuff is made in China but I think this is worrying. Cheers Geoff |

Every brand would use a lot of parts from China, so they are all in the same boat.

I'd say it would be more to do with design (costs) and tolerances than where it is made.

The issue of Chinese origin was of secondary importance, the primary concern was material substitution.
Ford Aus started to use Chinese manufactured glass with the AU Falcon using SFH (Shanghai Fuhua Glass Co.) Bill.

I've always said if people don't like Chinese made stuff, they shouldn't look too closely at the side of the box their dinky-di Aussie you-beaut car parts...
And I'm sorry...but if I was stumping up cash for an Aston Martin, I'd want something more substantial than a "plastic accelerator pedal"... |

Every current FG Falcon has Chinese glass, wipers, tyres, wheels, ICC, the list goes on... oh and a Thai made oil filter!

Not all Chinese manufacturing is bad either. Depends on the company and what sort of standards are implemented.

I'm not so worried about Chinese parts per se but cutting corners and material substitution does worry me. Remember the plastic in milk disaster? Corruption is rife in China and if parts are going to be made there then so be it but quality and integrity control must be very carefully monitored.

Yes but CSV8 those cars are completely built in China, or using Chinese Parts.. Its like these Foton utes floating around with Cummins motors.. Sadly they are made in the Cummins China factory!

Material substitution goes on all over the world where unscrupulous businesses try to save a buck and cut corners so it is not isolated to China, it has been going on since the days of Alchemy.
Global companies tend to have their own QC processes implemented on the ground to maintain control over quality. Sometimes the process can break down. Nothing is perfect. If Aston have any more similar issues in the next model cycle I'II eat my Tickford hat.

Theres also the possibilty that Aston stuffed up with the design of the accelerator and to save face, chose to blame Chinese corruption instead.

Ooh ar say old boy, are you suggesting that a fine British manufacturer, errrrr, owned by Italian and Kuwaiti investors, would stoop so low? Have you no decency?
