A FIREARMS manufacturer in the US has announced a sales promotion sure to draw fire: buy a truckload of guns and get the truck for free.
ArmaLite president Mark Westrom is also running a competition to get people to guess how many guns fit in the US military truck, MyFox National reported. Mr Westrom, from Illinois, has been collecting army trucks for 12 years but he said it was time to part ways with the vehicles — sparking the idea of a "truckload" sale. "It's not funny," said Mr Westrom of the gun deal. "It's serious business. It's serious socially and, even though there's a tinge of humour in a truckload sale of rifles, they're very strictly regulated." Due to government regulations and State Department rules, selling enough guns to fill one of Mark's old trucks will only be possible for companies that distribute or re-sell them. However the trucks themselves can be had by any buyer for the right price, Fox 4KC reported. ArmaLite makes and sells semi-automatic rifles in a variety of calibres that are used by military and police organisations, security firms and sportsmen around the world.

i wish we could still get auto/semi auto rifles here like we could. they were unreal. when i was in the army we would sometimes mow down camels/kangaroos or even pigs when we were out bush. kinda regret doing that know tho.
but back on track. this is not surprising everyone knows the one thing americans love more then there country is the right to buy whatever weapon they can get there hands on. |

This quote above, that only companies could make this purchase, not citizens, is not a surprise. It is, however, contrary to how many people in other countries think about how it is to buy guns in the US. As far as being able to buy weapons......yeah, we law-abiding Americans appreciate the right to buy weapons for fun (hunting, target practice, accuracy competitions) or for home or personal defense (like my 357 magnum loaded with .38 specials). Outlawing weapons only means law abiding citizens won't have them, as we abide by the law, but only robbers and thieves will have them, leaving us defenseless. Yes, I can buy a LOT more weapons.....if I wanted. All I want is something for home defense. I could shoot .357 magnum loads for more fun at target practice, but I haven't done that. I have .38 specials so that I am not shooting into my neighbor's house if I miss the intrudor, but I still have good stopping power at close range. I could get training for a "Concealed Carry Permit" but I am not interested in that. It might be a good idea to have for certain instances, occasionally in my life, but I don't feel I need to carry it daily. I don't live and wander in those kinds of areas. Yeah, there are plenty of "gun-ho!" Americans, but we are not all like that. I've seen a documentary on how Australians lost most of their gun rights and that is sad. I hated to see people have to give up family heirlooms, hobbies, and other enjoyments. Steve

With concealed carry permits, does that just mean carrying gun and ammo in a bag?

as far as people in australia "losing their gun rights".... why do we need them? how many shooting deaths are there in australia per year? we can still have guns for hobbies and hunting, but we dont need the armour piercing rounds that you americans need to take down a deer. GIVE ME A BREAK! anyone tries to justify the amount of guns in america, or the world for that matter, needs to take a good hard think about thigs

Concealed carry means you are in possession of a firearm that is concealed on your person e.g. in a pocket or a handbag.
It is amusing that is USA the firearm must be in view unless you are permitted to conceal it yet in Australia the firearm must be concealed unless you are permitted to show it. The point about reselling is just yet another "Captain Obvious" journalist's remark. Of course they are going to be resold. What would you do with several hundred if not a thousand rifles? Any person can win and own them they just can't POSSESS them. And if the winner DID want to keep them all they have to do is acquire a US Federal Firearms License (FFL) and the winnings become stock in trade. Same as here. You can own a ton of heroin a boatload of guns and a truckload of porn. You just can't legally possess any of it in Australia UNLESS you acquire the appropriate licenses. |

my points are valid. Australia is a better place to live than America for many reasons, tougher gun laws being one of those reasons. gun loving rednecks can think what they want

Banning guns in the US simply wont work, even if all the ligitimate owners handed them all in. Look at California for example, it has the most restrictions on gun ownership, yet there is still gun crime.
There is simply too many weapons out there for that to work, doesn help when you border a 3rd World nations which has terrible amount of drug and gun crime. Banning guns in Australia didnt change the amount of violent deaths in Australia, nor did the suicide rate drop. Just the amount attributed to guns dropped, but criminals and the mentally ill just found other ways to commit their offence.

This thread is more guns than automotive, and judging by the replies has no place here.
