How are we going to compete with that?
quad cam beast... aka new godzilla? Are we going to be running pushrod old engines against that?, iam a bit confussed as i thought they all neeeded to run a generic engine. I love nissan as i own a skyline but i cant see ford making a new motor like this? http://www.caradvice.com.au/189282/n...to-fuel-sales/ |

The story says the engine will be restricted to be on par with the old push rods in terms of power delivery.
"Nissan’s VK56DE engine, which has been modified by Kelly Racing to fit the ‘Car of The Future’ regulations, will become the only engine in the championship that has any real relevance to road cars. But despite its significantly more modern technology, it will be homologated to ensure that it has no advantage over its Ford and Holden rivals in power and torque output or the way in which it delivers it." Car of the future.....not. By the looks of the picture there is no variable valve timing? Is that not allowed in the car of the future rules? |

Apologies - if this is a stupid question.
What body style are they basing their COTF on?

Why do you think the other makes won't compete? The cars are built to PARODY, it isn't a manufacturer's technology battle like many people mysteriously believe V8SC is. The category will be an even more controlled formula next year with the new design cars, if it turns out the Nissan engines have a power advantage, they will reduce their power. It's simple. As for you not seeing Ford doing a new motor, what about the Coyote? That motor is quad cam. Ford could use it as their new motor, although it won't be ready by next year as I've heard the current Ford teams will still be using the same motor. |

having a little extra power won't do it much good if the chassis isn't right.
give 'em a season or 2 to sort out the combo and let's see what happens. the good thing about the pushrod engines is they are a proven combo, till they are out testing who knows what can happen. |

I was hoping that the theory would be that in order to race in V8SC's you need to sell a V8 car in Oz. That way we as a motoring society would then get more competition and better cars....all in theory of course.

if they finish mid-pack this year will be a good result, at the end of the season they can look back over all the data they have gained and work on it from there. be great to see a quad cam kicking *** against some of the push rod motors. |

Ford and Holden only have themselves to blame, they have been pulling out of V8 supercars bit by bit for years.
They lost me when they went generic down the middle anyway. Bring back production racing, and before people say we still have it, I mean with the best teams with the biggest sponsors and the best drivers so it would get the best coverage and the greatest support. It is no accident that the large car segment started to lose traction in this country when we went to this current generic racing nonsense. Car of the future pffft... just a fancy way of saying you will not be able buy anything like this in the future. Bud Bud |
