Default V8 ranger raptor

Got Wheels magazine today and they are reporting that Ford Australia are having built Ranger Raptors with the 5L V8 Coyote out of the Mustang and will be available through your Ford dealer towards the end of this year with full factory warranty.
Will be interesting to see how they go if it's true

Nah. Not even the F150 Raptor has a V8. I doubt a Ranger will get one.

If true the Raptors will be post factory converted to 5.0 V8 once they arrive in Australia. Is this another Herrod project or Prodrive?

It’s looking likely I heard. Will be assembled in Vic with a base Raptor having the engine swap. Sold through Ford


Will be a bloody great ute. They could charge 90k and it will be a hit. Ironically the V8 is cheaper to manufacture than the Ecoblue diesel

If it’s anything like the Colorado V8 conversion, the price will be more like $40K extra.

If true, perhaps a few will have a change of tune regarding Thai built Utes....

But then again it probably fails to the critics because it only can tow 2.5 tons

I’m afraid you could right. As these are new unregistered vehicles I believe the diesel power plants could be repurposed as warranty replacements or even shipped back to Thailand to be reused on the next donor ute to be shipped - that way you could use the same Diesel engine over and over

Does the 10 speed with Ecoblue for the Cyote?

Engine and gearbox would probably need to be replaced,
didn’t HSV receive some vehicles with temp engines that
were returned to Holden?

If it's going to be done, I'd have my money on Herrod doing the conversion. They were talking about doing more projects with Ford when the R-SPEC was unveiled.

No, my initial reaction was to feel for the poor bastards that bought a 2.0l diesel as a performance vehicle and who'll now be stuck with something no one it their right mind would touch.
All that extra weight over the front end should make for some interesting sand dune landings though.

From what i gather, most of the Raptors are leased for tax purposes as in, not keepers.

I wonder how many Ranger 4x4 buyers buy them for their off road capabilities, versus how many that buy them because they look so good.

Same applies to the Raptor. People are superficial. I can't say I blame them, either.

Now, imagine how these superficial buyers will love having a V8 for added cred. This is not unlike having a C63... purely egotistical. I can see it becoming very popular.

Perhaps with Dodge and Chev trucks now being available, I think Ford have opted for a cheaper-than-converted-to-rhd F150 option, which I think is a pretty smart choice, considering the Ranger's and Raptor's popularity.

Isn't the next generation Ranger meant to come out next year? If so, why would they bother considering we were supposedly meant to be getting the turbo V6 in the next gen?

Retail on the current 2.0 Raptor is $85000 on the road. What would that make a V8 conversion?

A V8 Ranger Raptor would seem to be answering performance buyers requests,
does that necessarily impinge on full sized truck sales or can the two exist side by side..

I don’t think it will impinge but it may save Ford some face for not having the larger truck because right now as desirable a full sized truck may be I think a V8 Raptor could indeed change the game. Enough sales may translate to the V8 becoming penciled in for next gen?

Great thought. With this 2nd tier manufacturer set up it seems manufacturing here just became a little more versatile.

Everest V8 would be epic considering Ford US won’t be bringing the Bronco here. It would look like Ford Au giving them the middle finger by slotting a V8 in the Everest.

The V8 void simply hasn’t been filled. Whilst this may cost a little more than what a Maloo would have retailed for we need to ask ourselves what other V8 options are out there? The Ram is good value but more often than not too big is just too big, and wouldn’t be anywhere near as dynamic as the Raptor.

It won’t be logical but you would want to hope (for simple maths) that they credit the motor they remove, say $10k, then add in a crate motor, say $18k, plus engineering, wiring etc etc ,say another $8k, but in real life take RRP and add $40k.

Bloody hell 85k for the 2 litre Raptor, yeah worried this will crack 100k

Still reckon it will sell well at that price. Will probably be the best Ute in the world

Good old captain sour grapes. Spewing ford is kicking on while holden sinks into oblivion.

Raptor exceeded sales projections. And this v8 version will have to top 100k. It’s probably not going to be cross shopped with the ecoblue version cause there will be a big price gap between them.

Grow up sweetheart, you've been one of the biggest supporters of the smaller is better mantra, upselling the benefits of the 2.0l as a performance variant and convincing people its the future, well, looks like those old school believers in no replacement for displacement may have had a point all along, although im sure you'll find some positive spin as to why a V8 is suddenly appropriate.

There was a guy in queensland i think it was, that built his own coyote ranger a couple of years ago. From what i recall he said it took very little work to make it fit. The biggest issue he had was getting the electronics to work in tandem with the rangers. But the engine fit like a glove.
