Default Tacho install - EB2

Not having a tacho is ridiculous, and as I've got to strip the cluster out to fix the odo I thought I'd look at fixing that at the same time.

I've read the standard fix is to swap in an S Pack cluster, but haven't found any specifics on the job. I understand the oil pressure gauge will need a replacement sender, but what about other bits?
-Is the pinout on the two clusters the same?
-Does the EB2 GLi loom have a tacho feed already?
-Are there other gauges/sensors I'll need to fit/wire up?
-Is there any consideration I should make for the smartlock system - I notice the existing dash has a light for it?

If anyone has a link to a how-to for this job it'd be much appreciated!

Cheers,
Alex

That shows everything that'll need to be done.
It's really easy. You'll need to run a wire for the tacho. The document also says you need to run wires for the voltage guage - but I didn't have to (it was already in the loom). There's also the low coolant/washer lights that need sensors hooked up as well. I didn't bother - and just removed those bulbs :P

Also, clusters out of cars without smartlock are different than those with smartlock. So get the right one ;)

Thanks mate, excellent write up. Do I actually *need* a smartlock lamp though?

just to let you know my car is an eb2 gli and i bought a s-pac dash for my car and it was a straight swap, it plugged straight in and it all worked. didnt have to run any extra wires or anything. i just had to put the right oil pressure sender in, and i just pulled out the globe for the low coolant light.
