Default mk1 escort gt dash

I wanna change my twin dial dash to a 6 dial gt dash, has anyone done this conversion before or does anyone have any measurements, diagrams or photos of one i can copy to cut out the dash and change it correctly. also does anyone know of a suitable fuel tank conversion to upgrade from the standard 8 gallon side tank

hmm... well u will need the 6 dial dash top for this conversion which i assume would give you rough measurements.. and for the tank the only thing i could think of would be a big drop tank or twin tanks and have the spare bolted to the boot floor

Fitting the 6 dial dash cluster is real easy.

You'll need to replace the dash trims tho, and relocate the switches on the lower RHS of original dash area.

I simply used a jigsaw to remove the excess dash panel - the 6 clock dash has a very wide lip so you don't have to be too accurate. I did find the 6 dial dash top useful in working out the area. I'll try and post a pic tomorrow for you.

For the wiring I unpicked the pins fromt he round 6 dial plug and fitted them into the standard square plug - they are slightly shorter but it did work.

Re fuel tank: I have just picked up a MKII drop tank that i'm considering fitting. Will need the rear panel modified obviously but will keep the boot area free.

I would Definately consider fitting a Drop tank. Try to get one from a panel van, The one i had in my Mk2 van from memory could take 50 litres. As well as modifying the back panel you will need to make sure the bolt end of the straps are re-inforced into the floor.
