Plenty of comments stating Holden would have cleaned up if they had released this. I disagree

But the first HSV was the VL SV88, not the walky..
never let the truth get in the way of a good story I guess, they wouldnt have sold a heap but they would have been pretty cool regardless of the badge

They were claiming 0-100 in 4.5 seconds. Looks like HSV still making ridiculous claims right until the end. They were good at that.
Testing showed it couldn't get within a second of that. Maybe the 4.5 seconds was off a cliff? |

Said in the Clip it was lined up for production in Thailand before Holden pulled the pin, do you believe that?

I think it would have sold very well. Many want the Ute without the slow diesels. It would have no competitors at $80k.
Silverados and Rams sell up a storm these days. Mainly petrol versions.

and where does the $80K figure come from? I think it would cost a bit more PS What are the sales figures for the Silverado's and Rams?

If the figures are close enough re heaps of Silverados/Rams.
VIO's Ram 2013 on - 2283 Silverado 2016 on - 379 As much as I'm a very V8 man and next year looking maybe for another Dual Cab or something as such a V8 in one of those big rigs fuel costs will even test me. RR with the V6 next year me think will suit well without the V8 extra fill costs. The V6 Rok is good bit of kit for a dual cab. Overall a hero V8 Ranger Colorado etc would be small volumes in the big picture, they won't sell heaps and heaps but some IF it ever happened but not gonna happen.

Problem with all these speculated big motors like this one in question, V8 Ranger and the V6 Diesel Hilux is these motors will only go in the top spec models. The average tradie or grey nomad that wants the great motor in the mid range model won’t get a chance. That is where the sales are.

3320 RAM's were sold through RAM Australia last year. Pretty sure I saw somewhere they are up 10% this year YTD. SCD are also doing somewhere around 1500 conversions per year. So nudging around 5000/yr in total. The vast majority are now sold at well over $100000.

The savior of Holden? Ha!
A V8 Colorado would have sold well, but not well enough to save the brand. They couldn't survive with what they were offering, a few thousand (if that) V8 Colorado's saving the Holden brand from GM's cost cutting is a pure fantasy!

They still built it and it was their first attempt, it just got marketed as a Holden product. The SV88 was HSV's first example sold under their brand, it was produced after the Walky. |

There was a mob in qld making these, I think the conversion was $35k for an LS3 and $45k for a 400kw LSA. (plus vehicle)

Unlikely, RR has kept the cost down by running with the standard engine and drivetrain. and it made it to the showroom floor

It's hard to say whether it would have happened or not. HSV/Holden have a long history of talking complete crap and making ridiculous claims ie. HRT 427 production car (was just a con so they could race at the Bathurst 24hr), claiming they would make 450 W427's when it sold so poorly they only made around 150 etc. Maybe they could have got it into production, but the price they are claiming is pure fantasy. It would have to have been crash tested, and it would have had to have passed all of GM's other durability/safety/emissions etc standards before it could ever be built, and that costs ridiculous amounts of money. All that money invested needs to be recouped, and a few hundred sales per month isn't going to recoup that money very quickly. I would be surprised if it really could have been under 100k. |

The SV88 which was HSV's first model, was announced in a press release dated 1-June-88 & they were delivered that same month. In others words BEFORE the first 'Walky'. Dr Terry |

As you know the Walky is a very different beast to the SV88 and needed many more specific parts manufactured or acquired to complete it so being delivered later is hardly surprising. |

Lol I'd buy a Ram or Silverado before I'd buy a HSV Colorado V8. I can't believe I even saw one HSV Sportscat, who would waste your money on that! Heaps more Rams and Silverados around here

"Walkinshaw" Group A cars were released for sale in March 1988, a few months before SV88. As said before, the SV88 was HSVs first car but the walkinshaw was their first job under contract by Holden.

Father inlaws ex business partner had a really nice walky on the market early 2000's and almost ended up as a limo.. he soon backed out of the sale when he found out it was going to be chopped up and extended

But I get your point, you are basically correct. The Group A was on the drawing board first & in planning first, even though the SV88 saw retail buyers first. Dr Terry |
