Has anyone sampled this new "Vegemite"
They want us to name it. After smelling and tasting it I decided not to enter. None of the names I came up with would be appropriate for a product used by children. If you taste it I bet most names will not go thru the swear filter. The only printable ones I could think of were: Claytons Vegemite Learner Vegemite No Smell no taste Vegemite American Vegemite Vegemite for Tourists Plastic Vegemite IT IS RUBBISH and an insult Save your money I tried to feed it to my dog. He loves Vegemite but would not touch this new stuff. |

Is this the new "easy to spread" Vegemite ?
If so, they have contaminated it with cream cheese........the cream cheese ( Toe Jam ) content is what makes it easier to spread. I can't handle cheese period ( except on PIZZA ).........so the thought of having it mixed in with my favourite spread kinda makes me wanna.... : |

Wasn't there a similar product in the past?
They must be experiencing a decline in sales. Provided they don't touch the real stuff, have at it. It's possibly the only thing I always have on hand in my pantry. I'm pretty positive I had a Begemite sandwich from lunch every day from Kindy to at least 6th grade. |

Now they want to do it to good ol' Vegemite, our staple for the past 75 years or so. |

id dont buy the shopping so i am unsure on the cost of it vs the cost of a normal jar of vegemite but i might like to add it is a good way for them to make money. it isnt a thick paste like vegemite, inside it is a light fluffy sort of paste which is in a thick glass jar. the jar makes up most of the weight itself id imagine. so you definately arnt getting bang for a buck.

JEEZZUSSSS!! :
the stuff has sold in it's current form for God only knows how long. Aussies will always buy vegemite even in the toughest times. Most of us have grown up on it. But no, they have to go and fix something that is not broken. Why can't they just leave stuff alone! no-one goes over there and tells them that they are going to change that peanut butter and jam cr@p they put on bread. This sort of thing really sh!ts me. ing_sm |

This new abberation is going to be sold along side regular Vegemite. Maybe they are planning on introducing it in the states and want to try it on us first. They have altered the original Vegemite as well. It's nowhere near as strong as it was in the 70's, 80's & 90's. I remember a jar used to last us months, and a mere light smear across the toast was enough. Now, you have to lay it on pretty thick to get any puch from it. The changes occurred for two reasons - 1. people did not consume enough when it was stronger tasting, 2. The taste was 'softened' by significantly reducing the salt content. This has obvious health benefits and Kraft did not want to be responsible for salt related health issues. I'd prefer the old recipe and the hardened arteries, thanks. |
