Hey all
I hit a roo on the way home from work the other night. He hit just about the right front wheel (Futura El 97 SW Auto) Since then, the car has been revving higher than it should. In park it revs at about 2000. Today when I got home, and put it it park, it was reving continuously up and down from 1000 to 1500 revs, like someone was putting their foot down and then taking it off the accelerator. My old Corolla FX GT used to do the same when it had a leaky radiator - it reacted that way when it was overheating. But the water level is fine in the Futura. One other thing - I have LPG staright case installled, if that makes a dif. Any idea as to what's doing this? Cheers Shaun

Yeah, it's going to be a disconnected/broken vacuum hose (check around the intake) somewhere

Cheers Guys
I tried the battery disconnect thing, but no change. It's not skipping or jumping, it just revs higher, almost like the auto is in too high a gear. When I'm driving, I can feel the car trying to push along harder, and when I brake, I'm fighting the engine - it's like the transmission doesn't want to let go. When I park, and put the car in park, the engine revs up high for a second, then backs off to about 800rpm, then revs up again, then backs off and stays at 800. I don't know a lot about cars, so aren't sure where to find the things you guys mention. I just thought you might be able to pick the problem from the symptoms, and then I won't look like such a gullible goose when I take it in to get fixed. Any ideas? Cheers Shaun

Probably just a vacuum hose loose or fallen off somewhere. I have done this a few time with my car only to realise it once I start driving it and it runs like crap. Go have a look under the bonnet for all the vacuum hoses and see if there is one that isn't connected up to something at one end.

You say you hit the roo at the right front wheel.
Check power steering for any damage, pump may be putting extra load onto engine, 100-300 rpm seesm about right but ranging over that is bizarre. Regards Paul

Didn't some cars have a vacuum tank in the wheel arch. Have a look under the arch and see if there's a small tank, could be cracked or have a cracked pipe.

Also check shock didn't move the distributor or Cam angle sensor slightly and put your timing out. I hit a very large one in a mini moke once that jumped again its roo bar. In addition to a small bend in the roo bar and shock bent the shaft in my starter motor where it was attached to the ring gear. The roo jumped off to live another day.
