Default Meaning of XR?

Sorry if this has been asked before, but was thinking.
G220= GHIA 220kw,
G6= GHIA 6 cylinder,
GT = Grand Tourer
GTHO= Grand Tourer, Handling Option
GTP= Grand Tourer presumably Performance
So whats XR stand for? Extra maybe?

Pretty sure the P in GT-P actually stands for premium.

First ever GT was a XR Falcon

Think it's sorta ment to be a continuation of that name as the XR being the starting level proformance package

No one knows - the first time it was used by Ford on a product was in 1966 on the Mercury Cougar XR7

Even the guy on the design team couldn't remember if it was model designation or stood for experimental racing or experimental research or was just because the Jaguar, a target market for the Cougar, was called an XK and XR sounded good

G6 is not the equivalent of a Ghia, the G6E is.
GT is actually Gran Turismo which means big tourism but as with all things the yanks got involved and changed it to suit themselves.
GTHO, well the HO has about 50 different totally true meanings that the mullet, flairs and missing teeth brigade will fight to the death over.
GT-P was definitely premium

XR actually means "I want to be a GS when I grow up".....

I remember reading around the time of the BA's launch that the marketing team took the X from XR and the T from GT and combined them to create the 'XT' name that replaced Forte.

Those two letters and the fact that the BA XT had similar headlights to the BA XR and GT was meant to give the base model more of a 'sporty' vibe.

I've also read a few times that XR stands for Experimental Racer.

I always assumed the 'HO' in GTHO stood for 'Homologation Option' since it was the variant the race cars were based off?

it was for handling option

high output and homologation option are 2 of the other favourites

i may very well be corrected but i believe it was only the ho's that got spoilers

GT-P is "Premium"

"G" in G6 = Ghia in legacy of the dead "Ghia" name. The "E" in G6E stands for "European styling cues". I remember this from the FG Falcon unveiling back in '08.

I read that the XA stood for Experimental Australia.

GT-P is premium.

Grew up being told that HO was for Handling Option.

Am I right to assume that the E in GT-E stands for 'EURO' or something along those lines.
