Default Everest v. Touareg

A family member who has recently returned to Oz for work and lifestyle reasons is looking at buying a large SUV.

His idea was a MY16/17 Touareg on a lease plan, I threw up my hands in horror. Surely a new Everest in good spec would be a price competitor, plus it would come with full warranty, no rashed rims, scrubbed out tyres, kiddie vomit reside, overdue services and the general "abrasion" of an aspirational Sydney Mum's Taxi.

Or am I missing something here?

Craig@CumberlandFord, you don’t have an opinion? ;-) Real person, real story and as I tell people, hindsight doesn’t pay the bills...

where did they come back from? if it was Europe I can understand why Everest wasn't even on his radar as they don't get them over there.

Yes, Piccadilly, so I suppose that’s (still, just?) part of Europe.

I’d assumed it was sold in the UK, even if differently named.

No idea. Not fussed if it gets moved.

That said, why consider the two completely different? Both are large size SUVs, and the prices would be arguably comparable if the Touareg is ~3 years old vs a new Everest.

No, solely online price/feature comparison, and my only likely driving of whatever is chosen, would be out of courtesy; I’d be expected to take it around the block once, come back and say “Yes, it’s nice, isn’t it”. TBH a BF wagon would do just as well but I’d never sell the idea successfully.

Likely off-road adventures would include the Palm Beach carpark, speed humps at IKEA Tempe, the Three Sisters metered parking. So whatever is bought, isn’t going to be used in 4L. It probably won’t get further than Terrigal, Blackheath, St Andrews and Dapto before being cashiered in the usual NSW stat write off caper due to a rubbish truck sideswipe.

So the 'Toe Rag' is the better option for them. its a car.. meaning that's how they drive feel
and it actually stacks up very well in reviews
if they want sightly bigger look at the Audi Q7

A BF wagon? hahaha

Part of the issue is “will it fit?”!

The parking spaces are not generous, and bounded by solid pillars. I may measure up next weekend when the tenants decamp but remember it was “cosy” side to side years ago with my larger Peugeot.

I don’t want my brother looking daft if/when his wife smears the side of whatever car down that pillar, if it’s too squeezy. Because - she will blame him for choosing it.
