And I read somewhere a company up north is patenting a design for making left to right hand drive conversion far easier without any engine bay changes with mention of speaking to overseas manufacturers.

Toyota must be thinking we have the market cornered, so many rusted on buyers will just pay whatever we ask. Might as well take advantage of them.
Squeezing them dry. Will the sheep start to wander. Or are they blind? |

Strictly playing the market atm. They are just taking advantage of the current climate, demand vs lack of supply.
Can't wait to see Hilux numbers for September given last months dismal figure plus these huge price increases.

Problem is Landcruiser has no competition. Hilux has a market full.

Well, supply and demand. The market economy is where buyer meets seller and all that stuff. Good luck to Toyota if they can get away with it.
Funny thing is ... after getting once on an early model (when the G6E came out), I will never do that again. In my view, the early batch never hold their value, particularly once a few running changes have come out as manufacturers deal with the inevitable glitches with a new model. |

One of my favourite scenes in Steve Martin's "LA Story" is where he goes to the posh restaurant and millionaire played by Chevy Chase asks for a better table this time, but is told no, and the reason why is "The New Cruelty". Hi Toyota!

4 years ago you could get a ss ute for 40k driveway. now its 80k for a horribly uncomfortable ute that most owners use like they would a ss, to site and home every day

No more local car production was always going to mean more expensive imports in the long run. Too expensive to produce vehicles here? Perhaps, but I read it as less profit, and now the gouging begins..

It was RHD, but it had all the holes for LHD, with proper blanks installed in each. The dashboard was perfectly symmetrical. The Glove-Box and the Instrument Cluster were interchangeable. He never attempted it, but from what he could see, the steering box and arms could simply be swapped from right to left.

so lease payment and running costs not 100% tax deductible and required owners to maintain a log book to prove actual % business usage ( ~3 months from memory?) The $80k utes are non-FBT compliant vehicles, so can be set up so lease and running costs are 100% tax deduction. (Vehicle is treated like company vehicle) That's why sales of Aussie utes faded away and 4x4 dual cab utes now tower over those former car based utes. Most of those owners are happy with easier tax position and easy leasing set up. Not withstanding the fact that most are used for considerable private use outside of work times...... You'd have to have rocks in your head, to buy a top of the line Hilux for about the same money you could get a Raptor for.
The Rogue Hilux's don't even get upgraded suspension. |

It will come crashing back down once their sales drop. No one's gonna fork out an extra 9k for a Toyota. Forget it.

"Toyota has shown off a lifted and unique Hilux model in New Zealand named after one of the world’s most vicious sharks, the Mako. This is the Hilux many have been waiting for.
The Mako is largely based on the Hilux Rugged-X on sale in Australia, but the Kiwi version goes a few steps further with an increased suspension lift, unique black Rhino 18-inch allows and Maxxis RAZR All-Terrain tyres (265/60). The suspension changes see an ARB Old Man Emu setup used for 40mm lift front and 50mm lift rear, this includes Old Man Emu BP-51 by-pass shocks with adjustable compression and rebound control. The leaf springs have also been upgraded. There is currently no clearance and departure angle information available." https://practicalmotoring.com.au/4x4...-raptor-rival/

The term “rusted on” keeps being thrown around like its derogatory. The truth is, every HiLux sr5/rougue/rugged/black pack bought in the last 2 years is now worth more than they paid. That is more than enough to keep buyers coming back.

Sheer arrogance of Toyota AU. Sean Hanley is surely one of the main execs behind it too, so far up himself.

Sold my 18 month old Sahara for $1500 more than i bought it for due to lack of stock and a price rise...
Having said that after owning 2 x 100 series, and 3 x 200 series, i just couldn't go back and pay more for what is essentially the same 13 year old car. Once they added the DPF, that ruined the 200. Clobbered its towing ability. The last 2 i had were both DPF models and struggled up hills towing where the pre dpf model was fine. The computer kept reducing power. One particular route i take with the caravan - start at bottom of hill at 80, struggling at 60 half way up. Non dpf was ok to do 80, post DPF both struggled. Replaced it with a new F150 coyote V8. Yet to see what resale and reliability is like. But so far it tows better, has more power and so far has used significantly less fuel than the 200 when towing. Same route with van as per above - cruises up hill at 80km at 3,400 rpm and easily accelerates if needed. Used 2 litres per 100km less fuel too.

Which is why they should be selling the F150 here.
There is a gold mine in sales to take off Toyota.
