just thought id let yas no that among other thing this last 3 weeks (1 n a half grand l8r) ive added a custom made performance catback exhaust, comprising redback muffler, 12 inch hotdog, 2 1/2 inch system with a 3 inch stainless steel tip. it sounds sweetas. other things inlcude pod filter, new amp, service, brakes, lowering n all that stuff.
B4 the exhaust was put on it popped and backfired n bangd hell bad up high under load n lost heaps of power. since exhaust its better but still popping getting worse again. its still losing fair bit of top-end!!! does neone no wot it cood be? e.g. timing, misfire, cat converter? ne help appreciated! cheers!

Hmm..
Anyone got a langauge translator handy?? At what point does the car lose power and start popping??? 7000rpm??? LOL Cheers, Nik

lol. ill speak better english.
msn does that 2 u! It pops if im flat out above round 3000rpm, however, disappears if i back off slightly, and then the wierd thing is that the car feels faster when not flat out? Used to sound like flapping but now developed into real loud pops! Doesn't sound normal!

I have the same problem. Get a mechanic to check the pressure in each cylinder. I have a warped header and my car was popping all the time. Here are some things that helped me. 1. Get a fuel injector cleaner. 2. Check your airbox. If the clips have broken, the box will let in to much air, and will pop. Good luck. I know some of the things I have suggested have not made mechanical sense, but it did help me. It might not remove the poppuing completely but it hopefully will help. Good Luck!

btw as webby suggested, the fuel mixture may be too rich.

2. leads are cross firing under load 3. crack in the dizzy cap, or shagged rotor button |

k, thanks for the advice. illl check all that. except the airbox clips, im runnin a pod filter. however the popping was there b4 the swap from panel (box type) to pod filter.

Check the rotor and distributor cap, make sure the little bit of graphite is still there and there isn't white stuff all over the posts.
Also change your fuel filter - you could have a lean missfire. |

try tightening up the y pipe on the exhaust manifold,and tightening the bolts on the intake manifold. check the resistance of your leads, check for arcing on the leads, checked your spark plugs?gives you a good indication of mixtures.if they're dark / wet, its running rich, but I don't think the mixtures are adjustable.
does it struggle to rev? it may be worth pullin the pipe off the back of the cat and making sure the monolith inside has'nt collapsed.

ye i got a nu cat back last saturday so hopefully the cat converter wasnt broken, (the installer would have told me neway. Also the fuel filter was replaced last service, bout 2 weeks ago, as we thought this may fix it...

just letting yous know that i have a set of topgun 8.8mm performance leads on order, and if the problem still occurs or i need new plugs i will uprgrade to iridium plugs.

Have you checked the dizzy cap and the rotor? I've encountered this problem a few times on E-series cars.
Even if it doesn't appear that cactus, throw new ones on anyway, they are fairly cheap. |
