Default Where are you guys washing your cars...

...with the water restrictions. My beautiful black XR8 S3 has been dirty for months and I don't want to wash/ get it washed with recycled water due to dirt etc that would scratch the duco. What are you guys doing/where are you taking your cars? I am in Wantirna South, Melbourne.

as long as you dont use the brushes at the car wash, and just use the high pressure water you should be right. it would be worst having a dirty car, everytime someone touches the paint it would scratch if dirty.

at the car wash i just use pre soak, let that sit there for a couple of minutes, then use the high pressure rinse to wash off, then chamois with a MF cloth.

letting your car fester in the dirt/dust like that can actually dull the duco as well (weathering), having your car sit like that acts like sand paper and is only doing damage to the duco, you'd be better off using recycled water and giving a good polish.

White is a great colour for keeping clean but recently when several months accumulated gunk was just too much for me to cope with any more I used the bath water to wash off the worst of it.

Hopefully the water was not too soapy and will not promote corrosion, particulalry when I could not rinse after.

I promised the wagon I would wax it when the water came back. :hihi:

I was in Autobarn on the weekend when a bloke spent more than the cost of bottle of bourbon on a waterless car cleaner.

See this post, i have named it now ( water / wash mix ) to Quick wash, i will post shortly how to do this even without a bucket of water - ie quick wash only you need to use plenty of wash mix then use a soft mf cloth to wash and seperate to dry before quick detail section ( you need several cloths to do a full car but it can be done )

Pete

The method shown in that post is all i use on my car make your own call, i think the pic talks for itself

I go to a self serve car wash place.
I use the brush, but only after I wash the dirt, and "Holden" germs off it.
I have been using them since I bought my car, and I can say it has not been scratched by the brush at all. And it would show if it did, as its Sparkling burgundy. Then I use the chamois, and Meguiars Quick wax. Comes up a treat...

Thats how it turns out after this method.

After the sprinkler system has shut off though... Oh life's tough here in the bush

I run it out to the car wash, high pressure hose it, then bring it back home and finish the job in the driveway.

It's bloody stupid how carwashes get arcy if you hand wash it and use a bucket there, I cant see how it would cause them problems and you're still paying to use their facilities.

See Gary at the wash on Fernleigh Rd, he's a Ford fan.

If that doesn't work tell him you know me...that should get you run off the premises pretty quick.

Water restrictions suck when you have a black car!

mine is lucky to be washed once a month (unless theres a cruise or meet up that i want to go to) and then its on the lawn with a quick bucket wash and rinse. still comes up nice enough for a daily driver, and thats enough for me. although i do spend the most amount of time cleaning the interior....:

My god people down there are bastards, I have not once seen a no buckets or no handwashing sign up here. In fact the biggest car wash has a sign saying that you are welcome to do it so long as you don't hold others up by doing so.

I would have thought it'd be too cold to wash cars in Ballarat!

But, if you had a proper car (see avatar) there wouldn't be a problem

I drive to Wagga ... it gets a high pressure wash in the torrential rain on the freeway.

And I left it in the driveway last night for a long soak in the rain as well.
